After the monstrous success of Ryan Murphy’s series DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, it wasn’t surprising when Netflix announced the series would return for not only a second season but a third season as well. Dahmer generated more than 1 billion hours viewed within its first 60 days on the platform, one of only four series to do so on Netflix.

Since announcing the renewal, fans have been waiting to see what the next season of the anthology series would be about, and on May 1, Netflix finally gave us the answer! Monster season 2, now titled “Monsters,” will focus on Lyle and Erik Menendez, often just called the Menendez brothers. Additionally, Netflix has obtained exclusive access to the brothers for a forthcoming documentary feature.

But undoubtedly, one of the main reasons the first season was so successful is thanks mainly to Evan Peters’ chilling portrayal of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. This role won him the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series. His co-star, Niecy Nash-Betts, won the Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series and the NAACP Image Award for the same category. She, Peters, and Richar Jenkins received additional nominations for their work on the show.

Will the show be as successful without Peters at the forefront? Or could he be cast in the second season just like in the first?

Casting hasn’t started for Monster season 2

For now, it’s too early to say who will be cast in the next season of Monster, as the second season of the anthology was only just announced. But obviously, they will have at least two lead roles between Lyle and Erik Menedez. Gus Halper and Miles Gaston Villanueva played them in the recent adaptation of this story on Law & Order: True Crime.

The Menedez brothers were born to a Cuban father, so we have to assume that Netflix will try to cast Cuban actors, meaning Peters would likely not be cast as one of them. However, it’s possible that he or any of the other season 1 cast members could return to different roles, such as lawyers, investigators, or victims. It remains to be seen, but we’ll keep you posted as soon as we get casting details!
