Is the Queen Charlotte limited series based on a Bridgerton book?

Who’s ready to learn more about the magnificent Queen Charlotte? The Bridgerton character certainly captures our attention and is a fan-favorite on the Regency-era show! That’s why we’re so happy Netflix decided to create a limited series on the royal’s backstory. Is it based on a book?

The show, set to debut Thursday, May 4, 2023 on the streaming service, stars India Amarteifio as Young Queen Charlotte, Golda Rosheuval as Queen Charlotte, Corey Mylchreest as Young King George, Arsema Thomas as Young Agatha Danbury, Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury, Connie Jenkins-Greig as Young Violet Ledger, Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton, and more.

So is the story onscreen based on a story written in the pages? We’ve got the answer for you below!

Is the Queen Charlotte limited series based on a Bridgerton book?

As many of you Bridgerton fans already know, the main show centered around the titular siblings and family is based on novels written by Julia Quinn. There’s a total of eight books, with each one focusing on a Bridgerton sibling.

So season 1, which was about Daphne and Simon, was an adaptation of The Duke and I .Then season 2, about the eldest of the brunch, Anthony, and his love story with Kate comes from the The Viscount Who Loved Me.

And while the next novel is supposed to be about Benedict Bridgerton, the Netflix hit has decided to skip ahead to the fourth book first to focus on Colin and Penelope’s journey to finding love. Their story is Romancing Mister Bridgerton.

Okay, so what about the strong-willed Queen Charlotte? Does she have her own book? The answer is yes, but the novel is not a part of the original Bridgerton book series. That’s for two reasons. One, the novel, written by Quinn and series executive producer Shonda Rhimes, isn’t even out yet. And two, Charlotte was actually never a part of Julia Quinn’s universe. She was a character completely created for the Netflix show. But she fits in so well!

The book centered around the monarch serves as a sort of companion piece to the upcoming series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, and will hit bookshelves just five days after the show’s debut on Netflix on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
