Firefly Lane ending explained: Does Kate die in Firefly Lane season 2 part 2?

Firefly Lane season 2 is finally back with new episodes! The first part of the season was released in December 2022, and fans were originally going to have to wait until June 2023 for the final seven episodes. Kate and Tully were still in their massive fallout from when Tully drove drunk and got into a car accident with Marah in the car, but upon learning her diagnosis; Kate rushed to Tully’s apartment. Unfortunately, Tully had already left by the time Kate arrived. It was a big cliffhanger for fans as we waited to see what would happen between our favorite best friends.

Sadly, yes, Kate does die at the end of Firefly Lane. Her cancer initially goes into remission but later returns and spreads to the rest of her body, including her brain. There is nothing anyone can do to stop it, and ultimately Kate decides to stop treatment and enjoy the rest of her time with her friends and family. She finishes writing her book and gifts it to Tully.

What is Kate’s book about?

Throughout the final episodes of Firefly Lane, we find that Kate is intent on finishing a book. In the series finale, we discover that the book is meant for Tully. Johnny gifts it to her at Kate’s funeral. It’s a book about their lives together as Firefly Lane girls, including all the highs and the lows.

Who gets married in Firefly Lane season 2 part 2?

At the end of the first part of Firefly Lane season 2, fans were left with a teaser indicating that Tully would be getting married, possibly to Johnny! But that’s not what happens. It turns out to be a big redirect. The teaser was about Marah’s wedding in 2016, around ten years after Kate died.

Sadly, Kate doesn’t get to be present at the wedding, but Tully does see a version of Kate in her bedroom as she gets ready and talks to her like she’s there, as Kate praises Tully for helping raise Marah throughout the past decade without her.
