Welcome to Eden season 2, episode 2 recap: Blue
The second episode of Welcome to Eden season 2 opens with Alma preparing to administer her first death as Astrid’s new executioner. She and Orson are instructed to kill Eloy, but neither of them can bring themselves to do it. They let Elon escape.
Back in the modules, Gabi introduces herself to the group. Astrid presses her with questions about her love of aquariums, and Gabi slips up, implying she has a sister, which Astrid catches. Gabi tries to cover it by claiming she doesn’t have a sibling, but her friend “Barbara” is sibling-like. It doesn’t seem like Astrid buys it.
Suspecting that Gabi might have lied on her profile, Astrid decides to test her by taking her out on a boat and forcing her to dive nine meters deep into the water to retrieve her star necklace when it sinks to the bottom. Gabi said that “Molly” was an excellent diver, so Astrid forces her to prove herself as Zoa watches helplessly from the shore.
Thankfully, Gabi manages to retrieve the necklace, but it’s a close call. Astrid seems satisfied for now and later invites Gabi to dinner with her and Erick. They wine and dine her, telling her they could become her new parents. Uh-oh, is Gabi getting brainwashed?
The aftermath of Eloy being sentenced to death causes a ripple effect on the group. Bel tells Eva she’ll never forgive her for what she did. Eva claims she did it for the rebellion. However, Orson later tells Ibon that Eloy didn’t die after all, and Ibon passes that along to Bel.
But even though he’s not dead yet, Eloy isn’t in great shape. There’s not really anywhere for him to go on the island, and Alma and Orson have to tell Astrid they failed. Eloy stumbles into a cave, but he finds a surprising ally. Isaac wanders into the cave where Eloy is hiding and takes an interest in him.
As for Alma, her failure causes Astrid to demote her back to level one. To do that, they take a hot brand and sear the second “X” tattoo off of her wrist in a painful process.
Back at Astrid and Erick’s house, Erick visits Africa and Charly in their cell. He brings a note for Charly from Mayka, who indicates she’s watching over him from the cameras and promises to get him out. While talking, Africa kisses Erick for the first time. Charly is shocked, and so is Erick. He asks her why she’d do that, and Africa says it’s because she’s wanted to for a long time.
That night, Joel finds Saul on the beach. The pair have always had an antagonistic relationship, especially after Joel killed Saul’s mentor. Joel proposes a rematch, and they get into a nasty fight on the beach while everyone surrounds them in a makeshift fighting pit. Saul beats Joel to a bloody pulp.
But Welcome to Eden episode 2 also reveals a surprising twist about Saul. We find out he’s the one who attacked Erick in the first season and sent Astrid death threats. He’s been working against Eden this whole time. Nico, desperate to get promoted, senses Saul is hiding something after the fight with Joel and ransacks the medic room. He finds a photo of Saul’s mentor and smashes the frame to discover the symbol of Lillith on the back, all the proof he needs to take to Astrid and prove Saul was behind everything.
Zoa catches him doing it and tries to stop him, but then Saul comes inside and sees that Nico has made the discovery. They get into a fight that ends with Saul injecting something into Nico’s neck. It’s a concentrated amount of some unknown drug that will cause Nico to overdose. He asks if Zoa is with him or against him. She says she’s with him. Saul leaves her with Nico, and Zoa cradles him as he dies in her arms.
