What is The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die about?

Since the start of the series, it’s been all about trying to come together to form a united England. But politics and war are not so simple. Due to the Danish invaders, tensions between the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons continued for a century. Though finally, peace seems to have settled, per the synopsis. But, of course, that’s about to change.

With the passing of King Edward, his two potential heirs, Aethelstan and Aelfweard, fight it out, with one able to become the next in line to take the throne. When Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg hears of this, he sets out to support his former “ward and protégé.” But a “dark influence” has taken over Aethelstan, and he cannot be trusted anymore.

The civil tensions create an opportunity for Danish Warrior‐King Anlaf to make his way over, “hoping to wreak chaos,” himself. The way Aethelstan approaches things makes enemies with the British Isles while the Danish king is uniting them, causing a threat to a potentially united England, per Netflix. Through all this, Uhtred will have to decide between the ones he cares about or the dream of unity.

The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die will be released Friday, April 14, 2023, on Netflix.
