Beef episode 3 recap: I Am Inhabited by a Cry

The third episode starts out with Amy and George in marriage counseling, where Amy explains she must just be stressed with the deal, while George says the things she said to him at the art gallery must be coming from somewhere. Amy goes along with it, but it doesn’t seem like she’s actually taking the counseling seriously.

We learn why Danny was driving to Amy’s house at the end of episode 2, and he ends up almost setting Amy and George’s car on fire until he sees Junie in the backseat and runs away. Danny confides in Paul and learns he’s still crushing on “Kayla,” who, of course, is Amy.

Danny decides to go to Veronica’s church and has a surprisingly emotional experience, breaking down in tears while singing in the service. Though Veronica and Edwin urge Danny to come back soon, he tells them he lives pretty far away. Edwin tells Danny they’d use a handyman at the church to work on some things.

While at Jordan’s home trying to sort out the deal, Amy gets frustrated and calls George to update him on the situation. But while they’re on the phone, George accidentally texts Amy a screenshot from Mia’s Instagram and then lies about why he has it in his camera roll. So cringe-worthy.

Amy then decides to continue messaging Paul as Kayla, and when she tells him she can’t FaceTime him, he asks her to talk on the phone. The two have a short conversation, but an impactful one as they bond, which leads Amy to hang up when she realizes what she’s doing is wrong.

Back at home, Amy and George try the intimacy practices suggested by their counselor, and Amy tries to open up about the struggles she’s facing. But she tells George that if she came clean with everything, he wouldn’t understand. She doesn’t think they’re on the same page, and the tension between them only grows when George says he sometimes imagines what life would be like if they had never met. Though he says it innocently enough, it, understandably, hurts Amy.

Jordan comes over to Amy’s to discuss the term sheet of the sale, but Amy is surprised to hear the board wants her to stay on as the face of the brand still. Jordan invites Amy to Las Vegas for a conference so she can discuss it with the board.

Danny decides to trick Veronica and Edwin’s church, planning to ask them for money to make renovations but actually pocket it to pay for the down payment on the property he wants. He gives them an estimate and says he’ll do the work pro bono, making himself look even better to the church.

Over at the store, Amy talks to Mia about the deal and how she doesn’t want to stay on. Paul suddenly shows up and asks if someone named Kayla works there, forcing Amy to confess. She tells Paul she was actually catfishing him, but Paul is still attracted to her and they kiss.

In the third episode’s final moments, we see Danny playing guitar at the church, soaking in the sense of belonging he now has there and his upcoming betrayal.
