Are Gilmore Girls stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel still friends?

Over 20 years after first meeting Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel in Gilmore Girls, fans still can’t get enough of the series, the actresses, and their characters.

The series features the beloved duo as the inseparable (well, until season 6, but let’s not talk about that right now) mother and daughter pair Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Only 16 years apart, these Gilmore girls are more like best friends, and it’s a relationship viewers adore.

Since the ending of the original series on The CW in 2007, Gilmore Girls has continued to endure and stand the test of time, thanks to its accessibility on Netflix and timeless quality. The cast even reunited in 2016 for a four-part revival — with a very polarizing ending.

But how close of a friendship do Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel have in real life? Here’s what fans need to know about their bond outside of Stars Hollow.

Although Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel played best friends on-screen as mother-daughter duo Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, it seems their close bond on Gilmore Girls hasn’t translated to a best friendship off-screen. Graham and Bledel might not be super-tight in real life, but yes, of course, they are still friends and supportive of each other.

In the recent past, before reuniting to film and promote Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life for Netflix, Graham and Bledel had gotten together for lunch to catch up. Graham noted that she and her first television daughter would always share a “special bond.” How could you not after making over 100 episodes of a beloved show side-by-side for seven years!

In 2017, after the 2016 release of the Gilmore Girls revival miniseries, Lauren Graham took to Twitter to celebrate Alexis Bledel’s Emmy Award win for The Handmaid’s Tale. “THIS IS SO AWESOME. Congratulations and love!” Graham wrote to her TV daughter.

It’s also worth mentioning that both stars are private. Bledel isn’t even on social media! Therefore, it’s nearly impossible to know the depths of their friendship and how often they keep in touch, unless they are asked about it in interviews or are publicly in the same space. And now as a mother, it’s understandable that Bledel would keep her personal life separate from her work.

Graham appears to be much closer with her Parenthood children and co-stars Mae Whitman and Miles Heizer and her Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist co-star Jane Levy. Whitman shared a birthday celebration for Graham on March 17, 2023 featuring the pair embracing and eating treats, with a glimpse of Heizer in the background.
