Don’t you just love a good action-thriller? A show that’s action-packed and filled with unexpected plot twists is the perfect type of show to binge-watch on the weekend with a group of friends. Luckily, Netflix released an exciting new original series called The Night Agent, and it’s worth checking out if you’re looking for something that’ll have you on the edge of your seat.

The Night Agent comes from Shawn Ryan, the creator of TV shows such as The ShieldThe Chicago CodeTimeless and S.W.A.T. Like many other Netflix originals, The Night Agent is an adaptation of another piece of work. It’s based on the book of the same name by Matthew Quirk and follows an FBI agent caught up in a political conspiracy.

Super 8‘s Gabriel Basso stars as the protagonist, Peter Sutherland. The rest of the amazingly talented cast includes Luciane Buchanan, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Sarah Desjardins, Eve Harlow, Phoenix Raei, Enrique Murciano, D. B. Woodside, Hong Chau, and many others.

Over the last couple of years, Netflix has been ordering a lot of limited series. Is The Night Agent one of the Netflix titles billed as a limited series? Find out below.

Is The Night Agent a limited series?

It doesn’t appear so. Typically, the streaming giant reveals whether a show is a limited series when they order it. This didn’t happen with The Night Agent. When the action-thriller was announced, it was announced as being a regular Netflix original.

Creator Shawn Ryan recently spoke with Deadline and discussed his plans for a potential second season if the show were to be picked up for an additional installment. So, this is pretty much confirmation that The Night Agent isn’t a limited series.

Here’s what Ryan said about season 2:

"“What I will tell you is that the initial pitch for this show that we sold to Netflix was that each season would tell its own, mostly self-enclosed, a beginning, middle and end story, and any future seasons would include a few but not most of the characters that we saw in the previous season.”“If we are successful enough that Netflix wants more seasons, I think there’d be a whole new world in which you would see a limited number of characters from this current season going into that. But that’s something that I’d have to sit down with the writers and have it all figured out.”"

How many episodes of The Night Agent are there?

There are 10 episodes in total in the first season of the action-thriller. The episodes have runtimes in the 40 to 50-minute range, so it might take you some time to finish them. However, the show is very entertaining to watch, so you’ll probably finish the season in one sitting.

What is The Night Agent about?

The first season follows Peter Sutherland, an FBI agent who finds himself thrown into a deadly international conspiracy involving a Russian mole at the White House. To catch the mole and save the nation, Peter must do everything he can, even if that means breaching the rules.

Here’s the official synopsis via Netflix Media Center:

"Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent is a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low level FBI Agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office."
