Netflix has officially added Floribama Shore to its reality TV lineup, and we can’t stop watching this show!

From the castmates with huge personalities to the hilariousness that is the puke and rally moments, there isn’t a time when we’re watching this show that we aren’t absolutely entranced by every one of these individuals.

Although we cherish every person in Floribama Shore, we, sadly, had to say goodbye to one of them, Kortni Gilson.

Trigger Warning: Mentions of sexual assault, drug use, and suicidal ideation

The tall brunette departed from the show after multiple seasons of being an original member. Like the cast, fans were gutted by this news but were also curious to know why Kortni decided to leave in the first place.

Here’s everything to know!

Why Kortni Gilson left Floribama Shore

As you might have seen in the season, Kortni Gilson decided to leave Floribama Shore due to mental health reasons. She struggled with going out to the club, getting out of bed, and communicating with her roommates, all of which made her experience much more difficult. What’s more, Kortni was overcoming her own battles, battles she was eventually brave enough to share with the world when she was ready.

“I was sexually assaulted when I was 16,” Kortni said in an interview with Dr. Drew. “And I couldn’t tell anybody about it. I was just having flashbacks if that makes sense. I felt like I was stuck in the past.”

In an Instagram post, Kortni continued, “I was reckless and out of control. Keeping my mind busy so I wouldn’t have to ‘deal’ with my trauma. Constantly on the run. This continued until season 3 of Floribama Shore, when I totally lost it on national television for everyone to see. I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. And despite everything, I am thankful.”

Kortni, in her own words, relied on using Xanax and alcohol to drown out her thoughts, and with all the craziness in the house and outside the house with her toxic partner, she realized she wouldn’t get the help that she needed in the Floribama house.

We are grateful to have met Kortni Gilson on Floribama Shore, but we are even more grateful that she sought out help to get better, a decision that definitely changed her life for the better.

Though Kortni Wilson is no longer on Floribama Shore, she’s still living her life to the fullest. Now, she’s helping others with their mental health by sharing her raw journey on her Instagram. We couldn’t be any more proud of her!
