It’s kind of crazy that Blood and Water only premiered in 2020 and yet already has three seasons under its belt. Now, we have a Blood and Water season 4 scheduled to be coming out very soon. How exciting is that?

Blood and Water follows two sisters separated at birth when one sister is abducted by a human trafficking ring as a child. Her long-lost sister Puleng (Ama Qamata) transfers to an elite Cape Town boarding school when she gets a tip that her sister might be in attendance. While investigating her sibling, Puleng uncovers many secrets kept by her friends and family all these years. In season 3, (SPOILER!) Fikile (Khosi Ngema) must do whatever it takes to help track down Puleng when she gets kidnapped this time.

After an explosive third season, we can't wait to see how the story will continue in Blood and Water season 4. Keep reading to find out everything we know about the fourth season so far.

How many seasons of Blood and Water are there?

There are currently three seasons of the South African series streaming on Netflix, with a fourth season on the way. Seasons 1 and 3 only have six episodes, but season 2 has seven, bringing the total number of episodes to 19. The total episode count for season 4 is unknown at the moment, but we can probably expect there to be six or seven episodes. Once we find out the total amount of episodes, we'll be sure to let you know.

Blood and Water season 4 release date

Get ready because Blood and Water season 4 is scheduled to come to Netflix on Friday, March 1, 2024. You can expect the entire season to drop at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET on this date. Also, if you're in the Central time zone, you're looking at a release time of 2:00 a.m. CT on March 1. These are the usual times that Netflix releases new content on its platform.

You can also expect the upcoming fourth season to be rated TV-MA, meaning it's meant to be watched by mature adult audiences only. This is the same maturity rating that the previous seasons had.

Blood and Water season 3 wrapped up most of its important plot points, but it also left a few dangling threads in the finale. It'll be interesting to see what new storylines will be introduced in the new season.

What could the fourth season be about?

As mentioned above, most of the main Blood and Water storylines were wrapped up at the end of season 3, with Puleng escaping and Fikile surviving after her biological father agrees to a liver transplant. But the season also ends with a cliffhanger regarding Sam.

One of the final images of the finale shows a photo of an unconscious (or dead!?) Sam (Leroy Siyafa) on one of the computers owned by leaders of the drug trafficking syndicate. The reveal that there are multiple cells spread throughout the cities is an ominous way to end the season, and it leaves Sam’s fate up in the air.

Netflix shared a small description of what the fourth season will be about.

"Puleng and Fiks try to move on during their senior year, but the past pits them against each other when they discover that they're still being targeted."

Cast

The main cast would likely return, meaning we would see Ama Qamata back as Puleng and, now that we know she survives, Khosi Ngema back as Fikile. Gail Mabalane is starring in Unseen, but since season 1 finished filming already, she should be available to return as Puleng’s mother, Thandeka.

Since the two series share creators, I’m sure she could manage to do both shows. Given how season 3 ends, I think we can anticipate Leroy Siyafa returning as Sam to find out what happens to him and why the trafficking cell leaders have his photo on their computers.

Other stars likely to return include Thabang Molaba as KB, Dillon Windvogel as Wade, Greteli Fincham as Reece, Mekaila Mathys as Tahira, and more. Unfortunately, Getmore Sithole probably won’t return as Puleng’s father, Julius, since his character was killed off, unless he returns via flashbacks or dreams.
