Who dies in Shadow and Bone season 2? (spoilers)

Shadow and Bone season 2 has finally started streaming on Netflix on March 16, and Grishaverse  fans immediately started binge-watching the long-awaited new episodes. It’s been almost two years since the series first premiered on Netflix!

When we last left Alina and the Crows, their battle with The Darkling was far from over. In the second season, Alina’s in search of the final two amplifiers, which will help her defeat The Darkling and destroy the Shadow Fold once and for all.

But not all battles in Ravka can be fought without bloodshed. The war in the second season of Shadow and Bone raises the stakes and a handful of characters unfortunately die — some characters fans love, some characters we love to hate. So, who met their maker?

Shadow and Bone season 2 deaths

There are a few huge battles in season 2, including one in episode 7 that was impossible to look away from. As the story continued to push through some of the biggest moments from the book, we lost a few major characters we were sad to see go. But there were a couple select others who certainly got what they had coming to them.

Here are all of the characters who die in Shadow and Bone season 2: Vasily Lantsov, King Pyotr, Baghra, Dominik, David, The Darkling’s Grisha, The Darkling, and Mal (briefly).

How is Mal’s death reversed in Shadow and Bone season 2?

If you’re reading this before watching the full season, or haven’t read the books, you might be wondering why Mal is included on this list. Well, upon revelation that Mal is the Firebird, he was key in bringing down The Fold.

Unfortunately, he’s injured in Alina’s fight with The Darkling, forcing Alina to kill him to assume power of the third amplifier. However, she asks Nina to bring him back to life, but when Nina’s power isn’t doing the trick, Alina secretly uses merzost to revive him.

Who kills The Darkling in Shadow and Bone season 2?

While Mal may have briefly died, The Darkling has died for good. Alina first hits him with The Cut before destroying The Fold, but she then uses Inej’s sword to kill The Darkling. Fearing what could happen if his body is stolen or left in their world, they burn The Darkling’s body to ensure he can’t come back.

Although Alina killed The Darkling and they cremated his body, some of his dark magic could still be alive in both Alina and Nikolai. We’ll have to wait and see if what’s happening to the duo has anything to do with The Darkling, and perhaps if it could mean he isn’t as gone for good as we think. Fingers crossed for Shadow and Bone season 3!
