Does Alina die in the Shadow and Bone books?

There are times when the heroine will die at the end of the story. Is that the case in the Shadow and Bone books? Does Alina Starkov die?

Shadow and Bone season 2 is almost here, and it will cover the main storylines in Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising, the second and third books in the original Grishaverse trilogy. Of course, many fans want an idea of what they’re getting themselves into with the ending.

Is it possible that we’ll lose our heroine? What happens to the Sun Summoner in the books? Here’s a look at all the spoilers you need to know.

What happens to Alina in the Shadow and Bone books

Throughout the second and third books, Alina realizes that she has a deeper connection to The Darkling. They can connect with each other, and The Darkling remains a threat. Alina needs to find a way to take him down, and that means finding the two amplifiers.

In the second book, she finds the Sea Whip and claims its powers. The third amplifier is the Firebird, but Alina finds out that it’s not an animal this time. Instead, Mal is the Firebird, and that’s why he’s been so skilled at tracking Alina and the other amplifiers.

Of course, Alina doesn’t want to kill Mal. Tamar and Tolya find a way around it, but things don’t quite work out to plan. In the end, Alina kills Mal, gains his power. Alina is able to kill The Darkling but her powers disperse. Newly-created Sun Summoners take down The Fold.

However, Alina isn’t quite Alina anymore. With The Darkling gone, there remains a threat on Alina’s life. So, everyone pretends that another fallen woman is Alina and burns her body. To everyone else in the world, Alina is dead and becomes Sankta Alina. This allows Alina and Mal to house orphans and offer them a home that they would have wanted.

Nikolai and Zoya and a few other Grisha know that Alina is still alive. She shows up again in Rule of Wolves, but she is no longer the Sun Summoner.
