Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal

Of all the recent releases that could be considered the best documentaries on Netflix, none is more timely than Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal. Alex Murdaugh was recently convicted of murdering his wife and son, receiving two life sentences without the possibility of parole for his crimes. The Murdaugh case is a dark and tangled story about a prominent family’s fall from grace. It’s a gripping documentary series, although it’s hard for a short, three-parter to get into all of the complexities (and numerous crimes) of this particular case.

Waco: American Apocalypse

This March marks the 30th anniversary of the national tragedy that took place in Waco, Texas, in 1993 when David Koresh and the cult of Branch Davidians faced off against the federal government in a deadly 51-day siege that resulted in the biggest gunfight on American soil since the Civil War.

Much has been said about Waco throughout the years, but this immersive, three-part docuseries will feature never-before-seen footage and insight from people directly involved in the conflict, including a sniper from the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, the FBI Crisis Negotiation Unit Chief, one of Koresh’s “spiritual” wives, and more.

Whether you’re familiar with the bloody events that went down in Waco or not, Waco: American Apocalypse is a riveting documentary series that introduces enough new insight to be worthwhile to anyone curious about this tragic event.

Waco: American Apocalypse starts streaming on March 22.
