Sex/Life season 2, episode 5 recap: Future Starts Today
The penultimate episode of Sex/Life season 2 begins with another time jump during which Sasha flourishes in her career sans Kam, including getting her first Times Square billboard, and Billie continues her relationship with Majid. But even though Sasha is doing well with her work and having a blast sleeping around with various paramours, she’s still clearly missing Kam.
When we catch up with Billie again, it’s just in time for D-Day, and she’s more emotionally rattled by the officiation of her divorce than she anticipated. To be fair, so is Cooper, although he’s more intent on pushing aside all of his feelings rather than addressing his trauma head-on.
After they finalize the details in the courtroom, Cooper takes off with Devon for a coke-fueled night out with two escorts. They party like teenagers in a hotel room, including Cooper throwing a chair out of a window…? Then they rent cars to race down the dark highway at night. Obviously, this can only end badly, and it does.
All of this happens at the same time that Billie is trying to deepen her relationship with Majid and introduce him to her kids. She realizes that while their lovely bubble in New York is nice and cozy, it doesn’t paint the full picture of who she is, which is also a mom. If their relationship is going to work, then Billie needs Majid to see and accept every part of her.
They agree to spend a day at the park with Hudson and Ellary, and guess who they run into? Brad. He’s there with his newborn son and gushes about how he was always meant to be a father. He lost his company due to the lawsuit, but he’s not even mad about it because now he has his kid, Hendricks. It’s worth noting that Brad is there alone and he implies that Gigi left him after he lost his company.
Hudson takes a liking to Brad right away, it takes him longer to warm up to Majid, but he does eventually come around. The afternoon goes well, to the point Billie invites Majid to her house in Connecticut, and they spend the night together there. However, since the episode ends with the crash, I think we can safely assume Billie is going to get a rude wake-up call.
Meanwhile, Sasha runs into Kam at a restaurant and takes it as a sign that she should give their relationship another chance. She’s been missing him badly and admits as much. They go out for drinks and fall into bed again. Old habits die hard.
Sasha finally tells Kam everything he wants to hear, including that she wants to be with him and loves him. But of course, nothing can be that simple, can it? Kam tells her he’s leaving in a month for Singapore where they’re setting up a new operations center for his company. He asks Sasha to come with him, placing them right back where they always end up: with Kam leaving and asking Sasha to uproot her life to follow him.
Sex/Life season 2, episode 5 ends with Cooper careening down the dark roads as all of his memories come crashing down around him. He can’t stop thinking about his marriage to Billie. He ends up veering off the road, crashing the car, and flipping it several times.
