Sex/Life season 2, episode 2 recap: Georgia on My Mind

Everyone is moving on with the new people in their lives, albeit some more successfully than others. Brad cannot get Billie off his mind to the point of reimagining the night Billie visited him, except in his fantasy, he doesn’t turn her down and instead they have steamy sex featuring a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it erect penis, a rarity on American television, though not surprising for a show like this one.

While he and Gigi are renovating the loft in preparation for the baby, Brad can’t stop thinking about all the places he and Billie have christened the space. At the end of Sex/Life episode 2, Brad even tries breaking things off with Gigi. Conveniently, she has headphones in and doesn’t hear him, and when he sees the sonogram photos of their baby boy, Brad changes his mind and proposes to Gigi instead.

Elsewhere in Sex/Life episode 2, Cooper tries to become the worst possible version of himself by morphing into a duplicitous cheater. But let’s rewind a bit.

After getting caught pants-down at the office, disciplinary action is in order. Cooper gets off with a slap on the wrist, but the execs fire Francesca. A furious Cooper accuses them of sexism. Normally, I’d agree, but since Francesca was his boss the power imbalance makes sense why she would get the more severe punishment. Nonetheless, Cooper stands up for her and quits in solidarity.

Now that they no longer work together, they can have their relationship out in the open, and Francesca is excited by the possibilities, even proposing marriage during pillow talk one night. The proposal causes Cooper to panic. He excuses himself to pick up Chinese food for the two of them, and while out, he gets propositioned by a random woman at the shop over a wonton. Cooper bangs her in the restaurant bathroom. Yikes.

As for Billie, she’s struggled to keep her cool when she discovers her mother is in town for a visit. Part of the reason Billie has wrestled with her sexuality is due to the environment her mother raised her in. She’s quick to slut shame Billie, and it’s clear that shame and guilt are two big components of her parenting methods. The stress of her mom being in town and Cooper being a mess causes Billie to freak out and break things off with Majid.

But then Billie and her mom have a surprising heart-to-heart where her mother encourages her to pursue things with Majid to see what her life can be if she allows herself to be happy. Billie takes her advice and rekindles the relationship. They sleep together for the first time, with Billie noting it’s the first time she’s been with another man in almost a decade since she’s been married to Cooper.

Sasha’s success nets her an important meeting with a big-time agent named Mick (Craig Bierko) who promises her he can make her more notable than people like Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, and even Oprah Winfrey! The catch is she truly has to live and breathe her brand. That includes writing a follow-up book called Unattached, which Mick pitches and sells to Random House for $500k.

That all sounds great in theory, except Sasha has gone back to Kam, and the two sleep together. I have a feeling that “living and breathing” her independent woman/unattached brand is going to be challenging when she’s headed back toward a serious relationship.
