Formula 1: Drive to Survive season 6: Will there be another season?

Formula 1: Drive to Survive  season 5 dropped on Netflix on Friday, Feb. 24. It highlights the most dramatic on-track moments and behind-the-scenes stories from the 2022 Formula 1 season, one that was dominated by Max Verstappen and the F1 record 15 wins he racked up on the way to his second consecutive driver’s championship.

The series has been credited with Formula 1’s leap in popularity in the United States in recent years, a transformation that led to the introduction of two additional US-based races. Last May saw the first-ever Miami Grand Prix, a gripping contest that Verstappen won by less than four seconds over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. The 2023 Formula 1 calendar will feature a record 23 races starting on March 5 in Bahrain and will see the addition of a third race on United States soil: the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix, which will take place on the city’s fabled strip and surrounding streets on November 19.

Verstappen and his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez could have clinched their second straight constructor’s championship by then, but Ferrari’s 2022 resurgence might mean that Leclerc and teammate Carlos Sainz will still be in the fight when the race goes green under the hot lights of Las Vegas Boulevard.

The upcoming F1 season will also see the debuts of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Alpha Tauri’s Nyck DeVries, along with 2022 Formula 2 champion Logan Sargeant, who will join Alex Albon at Williams.

The new race and new drivers give Netflix plenty of storylines to fill another season of Drive to Survive. The show’s immense worldwide popularity (according to the New York Times, it was the most-watched Netflix program in 33 different countries last year) gives Netflix another reason to keep the series going beyond this year, but will Drive to Survive return for another season in 2024?

Will there be a Drive to Survive season 6?

When Netflix announced last May that Formula 1: Drive to Survive would return this year for a fifth season, they also promised that Season 6 would be coming.

In keeping with tradition, it should be released in its entirety just ahead of the 2024 Formula 1 racing season, although both dates have yet to be determined. Drive to Survive season 6 will focus on this year’s races and Verstappen’s quest for a third straight driver’s trophy, and should drop sometime next February or March.
