The new season of Outer Banks is finally here, and fans have wasted no time diving back into the thrilling adventures of the Pogues. Set in the stunning coastal town of North Carolina, the series follows a group of friends who embark on a dangerous treasure hunt that leads them on a wild ride full of twists and turns. The second season left fans on the edge of their seats, with the Pogues narrowly escaping death and ending up marooned on a desert island they’d quickly dub Poguelandia.

The third season promised to be just as exciting as the first two seasons, with the show once again maintaining its signature mix of romance, action, and adventure — elements that helped the show capture the hearts of viewers worldwide!

Warning: Outer Banks season 3 spoilers ahead.

In season 3, the Pogues embark on a quest to find the lost city of El Dorado which yet again pits the Pogues against the world with few allies to turn to as they face both new and returning enemies including Ward Cameron. If there is one thing we’ve learned over the course of the first two seasons, it’s that Ward is never to be trusted as the only person he ever puts first is himself.

As season 3 begins Ward is recovering from the injuries he sustained in the season 2 finale and begins the season in a coma. Once he comes to, he attempts to put the broken pieces of his life together which entails atoning for his actions.

In looking to patch up his relationship with Sarah, Ward offers to help secure her and the Pogues a ride to South America to find Big John. The plan was for the plan to simply carry the Pogues to South America; however, things quickly take an unexpected turn thanks to Rafe (because of course Rafe is going to Rafe). You see Rafe gets Barry to hire someone to kill Ward, but then regrets the move and saves him. However, Ward is injured in the process so Rafe rushes him to the airstrip and forces Sarah to take him with her on the plane.

Outer Banks season 3 finale spoilers: Who does Ward text?

After Ward crashes the plane ride to South America, we quickly discover he’s listening in on the Pogues’ plans. When they land, he’s insistent that he wants to come with Sarah, but she tells him to mind his business, stay on the plane and go home.

Much to the surprise of absolutely no one, Ward does not listen and ends up meeting Big John, John B, and Sarah at the fish market where he’s helped to pay for their transportation up the river to the dig site. Upon arriving, he suddenly decides now he wants to say back claiming he can’t make the trek and telling the group to go on without him.

However, as we discover, before he does so, he shoots off a message from his phone sharing his location with a mystery figure. As we soon come to discover, the message Ward sent was to Carlos Singh, who Ward struck a deal with exchanging their location for Sarah’s safety. It was yet another in a long list of betrayals for Ward and would be one that would ultimately lead him to have to pay the ultimate sacrifice.
