A brand new season of Outer Banks arrives on Netflix on Feb. 23, and everyone’s doing everything they can to prepare for the show’s return. To pass the time, we decided to find some questions many fans of the teen series want the answers to and answer them below. One question concerning the main setting of Outer Banks keeps circulating all over the internet. People want to know if Kildare Island is a real place. As always, you can count on us to know the answer!

The first season mostly takes place on Kildare Island, which is said to be one of the islands that make up the outer banks of North Carolina. The island is split up into two sections: The Cut and Figure 8. The Cut’s population is made up of the poor/working class and is the home of the Pogues. On the other hand, Figure 8 is considered the “wealthy” side of Kildare Island and is made up of the Kooks.

Seasons 2 and 3 take place on Kildare Island too, but the Pogues also venture out into different places, such as the Bahamas in season 2 and Barbados in season 3. But can you actually visit Kildare Island? Here’s what we know.

Outer Banks: Is Kildare Island County a real place?

No, you can not visit Kildare Island County because it doesn’t actually exist. Of course, this means you can’t visit The Cut or FIgure 8 either. Kildare Island was made up by writers for the teen series. Actually, it’s a mash-up of an actual county in North Carolina called “Dare County” and one of the towns in the county called “Kill Devil Hills.” So although you can’t visit Kildare, you can visit the county and town it’s based on in North Carolina.
