If you’re a fan of the 2016 HBO series, Westworld, you may or may not have known that the show is actually based on a film of the same name. That’s right! There’s a production of the Western-set story that was released in August 1973.

The movie starred Yul Brynner as the Gunslinger, Richard Benjamin as Peter Martin, James Brolin as John Blane, Norman Bartold as Medieval Knight, Alan Oppenheimer as the Chief Supervisor, Victoria Shaw as the Medieval Queen, among others.

As many of you know, especially for fans of the show, Warner Bros. Discovery (which owns HBO and HBO Max), is kind of a hot mess. The company decided to remove Westworld from their platform entirely, even though it’s a very popular series. Now, the series has been given up to FAST channels Tubi and Roku instead.

So what’s the deal with the film the show is based on? Where can you watch it online? We’ve got the answer for you below!

Is the Westworld movie on Netflix?

The Westworld movie is not streaming on Netflix as it’s not a Netflix Original film. That’s because it’s produced by MGM. So what does this mean? MGM is owned by Amazon, but for some reason the movie is not streaming on the platform, at least not with a Prime Video subscription. You need to either rent or buy Westworld if you want to watch it on Prime Video.

Ironically, the film is actually currently available to watch online on HBO Max, as of February 2023. Though the company decided to remove its successor, the production is safe for now on the streaming service.

The ’70s film takes us to a futuristic theme park where guests can use androids to pretend to be gunslingers, per the synopsis. However, what is just pretend becomes a “grim reality” when the system malfunctions.

The Westworld movie is currently streaming on HBO Max.
