One of Netflix’s most popular series has officially returned today, with fans flocking to their TVs to see what Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) has been up to since we saw him last. You season 4 part 1 is now streaming, introducing viewers to a new side of Joe in London, England, where he poses as a university professor named Jonathan Moore. Though he tries to start a new life away from crime and murders, that turns out impossible when he wakes up to his neighbor Malcolm (Stephen Hagan) dead in his apartment. Did Joe do it, or is someone framing him? We get all of the answers by the end of the fifth episode!

You season 4 is split into two parts, with the first five episodes releasing today, Feb. 9, and the remaining five coming out in one month on Thursday, March 9. Though Joe is being targeted for the majority of the first half, he’ll be on a serious mission in part 2 to take down the man who’s wronged him.

MAJOR spoilers ahead for You season 4 part 1.

After Malcolm’s death in the first episode, Joe begins receiving mysterious text messages from an anonymous person, basically threatening to frame him. As Joe gets to know his new friend group better (and more murders are committed), he desperately tries to figure out who the person could be. He’s pretty sure it has to be one of Malcolm’s rich friends who he’s quickly become familiar with, but can’t figure out which one.

Rhys is the Eat the Rich killer and the person texting Joe in You season 4

In the fifth episode, Joe finally figures out who the anonymous texter and the Eat the Rich killer is, and that would be Rhys (Ed Speleers)! The one he least expected.

Prior to finding this out, Joe is convinced the Eat the Rich killer has to be Roald (Ben Wiggins), one of Malcolm’s rich friends who actually hated Malcolm and is in love with Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), though he can’t exactly prove it. After Joe manages to attack Roald out in the woods, Rhys appears and knocks out Joe, calling him by his real name instead of Jonathan. Of course, this means Rhys knows a whole lot more about Joe than he realized.

Rhys admits to being the Eat the Rich killer and the anonymous texter trying to blackmail Joe and explains that he’s done a lot of research on Joe and his past crimes. He felt inspired by Joe’s ability to evade the law and wanted to involve him in his latest project. The project being the string of murders. Rhys says he’ll let Joe go if he kills Roald, something that Joe refuses to do.

Joe is eventually able to escape and ends up back in London, seemingly with a target on his back because he didn’t do what Rhys told him to. You season 4 part 1 ends with Joe watching the TV as Rhys announces his candidacy to run for mayor of London, and Joe knows he needs to stop him as soon as possible.

We’ll see Joe on the hunt to defeat Rhys in You season 4 part 2, but whether or not that means he’ll kill him is up for speculation.

You can stream You season 4 part 2 on March 9, 2023.
