What is Kate’s big secret in You season 4? (Who is she, really?)

Now that You season 4 part 1 is available to stream on Netflix, I’m sure you’re spending your time binge-watching the new episodes. Although there are only five episodes in part 1, a lot happens in those episodes. We find out a mysterious killer is killing the elite, an anonymous texter is sending Joe threatening messages, and Kate is not who she portrays herself as.

You might be wondering what we mean by Kate. Well, she has a big secret that only her close friend group knows about. However, she eventually trusts Joe enough to let him in on the secret. But what is Kate’s big secret?

When we’re first introduced to Kate, we learn about her through Joe’s research. We learn she’s an art gallery director at Clotho Gallery in London, England. Additionally, she’s the daughter of a woman named Greta Galvin, a ’90s model who now works as a spiritual stylist in Ibiza.

However, we start to learn more juicy information about Kate through her conversation with Roald in episode 4. During their conversation, we discover that Kate comes from a wealthy background. This might not be shocking to anyone seeing as though Kate hangs around a bunch of other privileged people. However, it’s how rich she is that is surprising.

What is Kate’s big secret in You season 4?

During dinner in Phoebe’s country house, Roald hints at Kate hiding a secret from Joe which catches Joe’s attention. So later, Joe approaches Kate to talk to her about what happened at dinner with the rest of the friend group. Kate reveals to Joe, the identity of her father. She tells him that her father is Tom Lockwood. But Joe has no idea who he is because when he researched Kate, he couldn’t find any information on her father.

Kate explains to Joe that her father is an activist investor and one of the most powerful men on the planet. She even tells Joe that her family is wealthier than any of her friends’ families. Joe asks Kate why she doesn’t use her family’s last name, and Kate explains to him that she cut ties with her family a long time ago because of her father’s dirty dealings and how he makes his money.

She also explains to Joe how she wants to make her own way and not only be known as Tom Lockwood’s daughter. So, she continued to work hard to create the life she now has. However, her father constantly tries to find a way to be in her life. Joe sees this for himself when Kate’s father sends bodyguards to watch over her while she stays at the country house.

So, Kate’s big secret is that she’s very well-off because of her father, but she wants nothing to do with him or his money because he’s a crooked businessman.
