If you’re not sick of pandemic stories, then Netflix’s latest Spanish thriller might be the perfect movie night pick to check out this weekend. Infiesto is a dark, gritty film about a pair of detectives trying to take down those they believe responsible for the abduction of a young girl.

Set in March 2020, the emergency lockdown brought on by the start of the pandemic creates a tense backdrop to the disturbing thriller.

A Man of Action screenwriter Patxi Amezcua (who also directed The 7th Floor), wrote and directed this mystery film about the investigation into the reapparance of a woman presumed dead. Infiesto stars Feria: The Darkest Light actor Isak Férriz and Elite alum Iria del Río.

Infiesto on Netflix plot synopsis

Set during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Infiesto centers on two determined detectives, Samuel Garcia (Isak Férriz) and Castro (Iria del Río), determined to find the men responsible for the abduction of a young girl three months earlier. When the girl suddenly turns up, they recognize a disturbing pattern in the abductions and must act fast to put an end to the disapperances before something even worse occurs.

The trailer teases that the pandemic is still very much a problem, with at least one character spotted wearing a face mask, but it’s not clear how it ties into the main mystery just yet.

At the start of the trailer, one character says that they’re facing end times, indicating they believe the pandemic is a sign of the apocalypse. Perhaps the kidnappings are related to that fear.

Here is the official Netflix synopsis:

"March 2020. On the first day of the state of emergency, two detectives are called to a small mining town in the Asturian lowlands where a young woman has appeared after having been missing for months. While the world is falling apart and personal tragedy strikes all around, the detectives soon notice that the virus might not be the only dark force at work."
