Without further ado, let’s take a look at what happened in episode 5.

Crash Course in Romance: What happens in episode 5?

The episode begins with our two protagonists, Nam Haeng-seon and Choi Chi-yeol, sitting opposite each other in “Nation’s Best Banchan,” Haeng-seon’s restaurant. Chi-yeol, in the previous episode, had offered to give Nam Hae-yi (Haeong-seon’s daughter) private tutoring, after Hae-yi was unfairly removed from the “All Care Program.”

Chi-yeol is nervous about this proposal as he fears Haeng-seon may accidentally say something about the private tutoring, which could get him into trouble. Chi-yeol offers to give the private tutoring for free, so long as Haeng-seon lets him buy lunchboxes from her again. Haeng-seon gets the private mathematics tutoring for her daughter, Chi-yeol gets the “Nation’s Best Banchan” meals that he loves. It’s a win win for both parties!

They agree a schedule and Chi-yeol makes sure Haeng-seon understands how important it is that this remains a secret. After the lighthearted scene between the two individuals, the episode takes a darker turn as it cuts to the crime scene of the murder that took place in last week’s episode. Emergency services arrive, all the while the mysterious hooded figure that seemingly committed the crime is lurking in the background. He picks up the metal ball that was fired at the scene, before leaving.

Chi-yeol returns home, ready to get some sleep, before he receives a phone call. He is informed about the death of the student he taught the night prior and he goes to the scene, before he is questioned by detectives.

Meanwhile, Nam Hae-yi decides to go forward and help Seo Goon-hoo with his studies, to which Lee Seon-jae seems to be somewhat jealous. Shortly after discussing this, the students find out about the tragedy that took place the night prior. The “All Care Program” classes are canceled, but due to demands from mothers that the classes go on, Chi-yeol agrees to continue the classes as normal.

It is revealed that Seon-jae has a crush on Hae-yi. However Goon-hoo also allegedly has a crush on her, which seems to be the beginning of some form of love triangle between these three. Hae-yi has yet to show any romantic interest in either of them. As of now, Seon-jae is her best friend and Goon-hoo is her study partner.

Chi-yeol teaches his mathematics class and is able to make his students laugh despite everything, in a very heartwarming scene. He then goes to Haeng-seon’s house for his first secret tutoring session with Hae-yi.

Nam Jae-woo, Haeng-seon’s brother, goes to order his waffles, which is a part of his routine. However, he gets into an altercation with the server’s boyfriend, and ends up pushing him over. The police get involved and Chi-yeol drives Haeng-seon to the station. The server offers to drop the charges, so long as Jae-woo doesn’t return to the cafe, and Jae-woo is able to return home with his sister.

Whilst driving home, Chi-yeol spots Haeng-seon drinking outside of a shop on her own. She seems extremely upset by the incident with Jae-woo. Chi-yeol decides to sit with her and keep her company, but he ends up getting drunk with her and she walks him home. Chi-yeol spends the night sleeping on Haeng-seon’s sofa, which of course is a shock for him when he wakes up.

When Chi-yeol tries to leave her house in a hurry, he accidentally leaves his belt behind, to which Haeng-seon chases him to return it. However, they are caught by Haeng-seon’s best friend and Chi-yeol’s assistant. Naturally, the assistant and friend get the wrong idea, and the episode ends on a comedic note.
