The Snow Girl episode 6 recap: The next chapter

The finale begins in episode 6 with Belén and Chaparro questioning Miren regarding her connection to James Foster. Miren claims the only reason the photos were in his safe is because she had visited as part of an assignment. Eduardo arrives shortly after to pick her up, and since the cops don’t have any legitimate evidence tying Miren to the deaths, they have no choice but to let her go.

As for why David and James were killed, we learn that after David got out of jail, he went to meet James after someone orchestrated a meeting between them. Photographs were taken of the two together and leaked to make it seem like they snitched on Slide users. Someone killed them believing them to be rats.

Eduardo questions Miren as to why she didn’t just tell the cops the truth about the photos and her situation. She didn’t do anything wrong. But Miren is cagey with her response and changes the subject to Iris, who she plans to visit.

Later, Belén confronts Miren again outside of her apartment. They’ve connected the photos to a specific type of camera, and they know they were printed off at a library close to Miren’s apartment. Miren still denies knowing anything about their deaths but admits she’s not sorry about what happened to them. Belén is unconvinced.

On the way back to the newspaper headquarters to pick up her car, Eduardo parks on a side street so Miren can avoid the press mobbing the building. Someone has leaked the fact Miren is a suspect and now it’s being reported on the news. Eduardo takes Miren’s keys to retrieve her car and drives it somewhere private for Miren to take and go see Iris. Inside, he notices Miren’s camera on the ground, and he snoops through it, spotting the leaked photos of David and James, implying that it was indeed Miren who orchestrated their deaths.

We now know that Iris is Amaya’s kidnapper, so the entire sequence with Miren at her house is very tense. Iris knows who Miren is and remains on edge throughout their entire conversation, even putting a knife in her pocket to kill Miren if she needs to. The entire time, Amaya is in the other room trying to stay quiet and keep the dog from alerting Miren of her presence.

Ultimately, Miren doesn’t find or suspect anything until she leaves. Only then does she recall Iris’s headband is the same one Amaya was wearing in the 2019 video. After making that connection, Miren stakes out the house. Miren’s presence has spooked Iris, so she forces Amaya to pack and prepare to leave that night. Miren follows them in her car, and once Iris realizes this, she knows the jig is up. Rather than pulling over and handing herself over to the police, Iris drives her car off a cliff in an attempt to kill herself and Amaya. Amaya survives the crash, but Iris doesn’t.

At the hospital later, Amaya is finally reunited with her parents, but it’s not exactly a cheerful reunion. Amaya still only responds to the name Julia, and she’s clearly traumatized by Iris’s death and everything else that’s happened to her over the past nine years. It’s going to be a long road to recovery for all three of them.

Eduardo arrives at the hospital to pick up Miren and tells her he found the camera and took the memory card out of it for her, just in time, too, since the cops find the camera in Miren’s car at the crash site. But Eduardo removed everything of value from it. Now that the case is finally closed, Miren is ready to move on with her life and plans to go live with her mother for a while.

The Snow Girl then skips ahead two years. Miren is now a successful author hosting a reading for her latest book, which is all about Amaya’s case and her involvement with the investigation. At the end of the event, Miren receives another envelope from an unknown source. Inside is a polaroid photo of a young girl bound and blindfolded. The caption says her name is Laura and that the photo is from 2012, implying that someone wants Miren’s help to solve another missing girl case. Does that mean we’ll be getting a second season?
