The Snow Girl episode 4 recap: Goodbye
Beginning in 2016, this episodeâs chilling opening sequence starts with Miren returning to Jamesâs caravan with him where he reveals one of Mirenâs assailants recorded her rape and shared it on the illegal pornography website, Slide, the same site David and Samuel were using. James makes a deal with Miren, heâll give her a list of active users on the site so she can track down her rapists in exchange for several thousand dollars.
Miren doesnât have that kind of cash, so James suggests a different kind of deal. He wants to photograph Miren because he compares her innocent look and obedience to that of a child. Ew. Ew. Ew. The whole scene is really uncomfortable to watch, but James does provide Miren with the list of names.
The Snow Girl episode 4 skips ahead to 2019, now nine years after Amayaâs disappearance. Someone has lit James Fosterâs caravan on fire.
Miren is still working at Diario Sur, sheâs now an editor, and someone sends her a second tape, this one simply labeled âGoodbye.â Like the first tape, this one shows Amaya playing in the same bedroom, except now sheâs a few years older. When Ana and Ălvaro see the tape and the âgoodbyeâ message, they become distraught thinking the kidnappers are preparing to kill Amaya. In a desperate bid for answers, they make a new impassioned plea offering a âŹ100,000 reward for any info about Amaya.
With the second tape in circulation thanks to the Miren, the pressure is on for BelĂ©n to solve this case. While analyzing stills from the two tapes side-by-side, she notices the 2019 tape has a few new toys inside the dollhouse. She and Chaparro canvas local toy stores and find an older man who makes miniatures. He might have made the toys. He canât remember for sure.
Eduardo is still teaching in 2019. Miren visits him to provide updates on the case and the new tape. He connects her with one of his colleagues, a tech whiz who analyzes the footage from the two tapes for any discerning markers. She notices that the photo is clearer in the 2019 video despite being made on the same 1985 VCR. The VCR heads were likely changed, which would have had to been done recently and since itâs much harder to find those parts nowadays than it was in the 1990s, Miren finds a promising lead from a local electronics store.
She tells the clerk what kind of repairs she intends to make on her Sanyo VCR 1985. In response, he notes the coincidence between her request and a similar one he received recently. Another woman requested repairs on a VCR of the same model. But heâs unwilling to give Miren any information other than that, so she steals his notebook full of customer information. In it, Miren finds the name of the customer in question: Iris Molina.
Shortly after leaving the toy store, Belén gets a call regarding James Foster. Someone burnt down his caravan and two bodies were found inside. Not only that, but investigators discovered a safe containing polaroid photos of Miren, connecting the journalist to the scene of a crime.
Back in 2016, Miren visited David Loque in prison after getting the list of names from Slideâs user database. David is of no help to her. He antagonizes Miren by noting that no matter what she does, there will always be predators like him in the world gaming the system, raping people, and making illegal pornography. Considering what sheâs been through, Davidâs comments get under Mirenâs skin.
Then we return to 2019. Miren tells Paco about her new lead on Miren just as BelĂ©n arrives to question Miren regarding her involvement with James Fosterâs death. The two bodies found at the scene were his and David Loqueâs, both men who were suspects in Amayaâs disappearance. BelĂ©n wants to know what Mirenâs photos were doing in Jamesâs safe and whether she had anything to do with their deaths.
In the final moments of The Snow Girl episode 2, we meet Iris Molina. Miren is on the right track. Iris is indeed the woman holding Amaya captive, except now Amaya goes by the name Julia and she thinks Iris is her mother.
