That ’90s Show season 1 ending explained: Who does Leia end up with? (spoilers)
By Reed Gaudens
Hello, Wisconsin! A new generation of Point Place teens arrives in That ’90s Show, Netflix’s sequel spinoff of the beloved hit sitcom That ’70s Show. Just like the original gang, the newbies are spending the summer of 1995 in the Forman’s basement getting high and coming of age.
In That ’90s Show, Eric and Donna’s teenage daughter Leia (Callie Haverda) spends the summer in her father’s childhood home under the care of her grandparents Red and Kitty Forman. She meets some new friends, maybe even a boyfriend, and has the time of her life.
But the season 1 finale finds Leia having to make some difficult choices as she prepares to leave Point Place and head back to Chicago for the new school year. Will she make it work long distance with Jay (Mace Coronel), or is there someone else on her mind?
Warning: Spoilers ahead from the season finale of That ’90s Show!
Do Leia and Jay end up together in That ’90s Show?
Leia’s crush on Jay turns into a full-fledged relationship by the middle of the season. Although Red (and Donna!) can’t fathom that Leia’s dating a Kelso, the young couple can’t deny their feelings for each other. However, Jay decides to break up with her when he fears a long distance relationship.
Before Leia leaves with her mother to go back home to Chicago, Jay pleads with her to give him another chance. He kisses her, but Leia tells him she’s confused and will call him when she gets home. While Leia doesn’t officially end up with Jay, their story doesn’t appear to be over.
Does Leia kiss Nate in That ’90s Show?
Toward the end of the first season, Leia and Nate (Maxwell Acee Donovan) grow closer as friends, though it seems like it could be more… in spite of Nate being in a relationship with Nikki (Sam Morelos). The pair nearly kiss in episode 9, hence Leia’s confusion in episode 10.
Although nothing happens between Leia and Nate, there are definitely feelings between them that they haven’t had the opportunity to explore. And considering Nate and Nikki are still together, they both feel guilty for having these feelings. We’ll see what happens to the Jeia and Neia ships in a potential second season!
Will Leia come back to Point Place in That ’90s Show?
If That ’90s Show season 2 gets picked up by Netflix, Leia will make her Point Place comeback. Bonnie and Terry Turner, co-creators of the spinoff as well as the original, have confirmed that each season of the series will only take place in the summer months. Meaning, Leia will leave her normal school life behind in Chicago each summer and stay with her grandparents in Point Place.
The creative team behind the spinoff made the decision to set the series during summer to avoid having to deal with the kids going to school and telling stories related to their school lives. After all, we all want to see their misadventures in the Forman basement rather than the halls of high school. Surely, some flashbacks could help fill in the gaps of what we missed the rest of the calendar year.
