Kaleidoscope recap: Yellow: 6 Weeks Before the Heist

As much as we want to see how Ray begins his new life as Leo, we’ll have to wait a bit for that. “Yellow” takes place years into the future, and we’re told it’s six weeks before the big heist. From now on in this episode recap, we’ll call Ray by his new name, Leo, to avoid confusion.

“Yellow” shows us how the idea of the heist is born and how Leo is able to get a full crew together. He first proposes the plan to Stan, who’s out of prison now and working as a butcher in Philadelphia. He’s no longer dating Judy and is now with a woman named Barbara, who doesn’t seem too fond of him. Leo tells Stan there’s a heist that’s valued at $7 billion, and even Stan cannot say no to that number.

Leo explains that there’s a vault underground worth $7 billion, owned by a group of powerful people dubbed “The Triplets” which includes Cho-young-woo, Suzanne Grosvenor, and Stefan Thiele. The three apparently control half a trillion dollars, and Leo wants to break in to steal their bonds in a couple of months. He explains that all they need is each over, a driver, a forger, security, and a chemist. And as we know from the episode “Green,” Stan definitely knows a chemist.

While Leo and Stan begin to construct their crew, we learn more about Hannah’s job. Working for Roger, she helps keep the vaults in their office secure, whether that means elaborate ploys to evaluate a competitor’s security or keeping a close eye on any potential breaches. She works at the same building Leo wants to rob. She’s up for a Junior VP role, plus we learn that she’s pregnant.

Stan’s ex-girlfriend Judy proves to still be an important character in the show, even though she’s now dating Bob, and Stan and Leo ask her to help with their heist. As a chemist, Judy can make drugs that could distract the security guards. Unsurprisingly, Bob wants in too, and says he can crack the safe. And just like that, they’re in.

Leo then goes to visit Ava at her place and she surprises him by saying she wants in, assuring him she can serve as security on the job. Leo doesn’t understand why she’d want to be involved, but she then shows him her basement full of guns and tells him it’ll be payback for an IOU she’s had for him.

Next, they need a driver. Leo suggests a young man named RJ who works under him at a body shop, and he’s pretty easily persuaded. While the full group is all together they realize that one problem they have off the bat, however, is that they don’t really ever get along. They also realize they’re going to need $350,000 worth of equipment to pull the heist off, which they don’t have. But before giving up, Bob proposes they go to Diamond Way, a street full of high-end jewelers in New York City, to steal some diamonds.

We then see their first heist as a group play out. Some are in disguise while RJ, of course, is the getaway driver. They plant smoke grenades in garbage cans along the street and as they go off, pedestrians are distracted and start to run away while the group also tases people. They throw more explosives into the stores and go inside to get some illegal shopping in as quickly as possible. It’s a close call when Bob gets greedy and holds them up, but they’re able to steal a ton of jewelry without getting caught, which is a win. Though it’s not without casualties.

Kaleidoscope Yellow episode ending explained

The ending of “Yellow” concludes with Hannah, as it’s revealed she’s also part of Leo’s plan. As it was teased earlier, Leo has eyes on the inside for the heist, and that would be his daughter. This is proven when she frames her coworker Andrew for a supposed security breach, and she ends up getting his job as Senior VP.

Hannah meets with her father, and though she’s going to help him, she’s hesitant. She warns him about The Triplets and how dangerous they are, and Leo seems surprised by her worry. He asks if anything else is going on and she says no, which isn’t entirely true because we know she’s pregnant. But Leo doesn’t know that yet. The two embrace and confirm they’re in this together.
