The Circle spoilers: What is the Tower of London?

The Circle season 5 has arrived and there are some truly amazing and wild contestants competing for the grand prize this season, including one contestant who happens to be in the royal line of succession!

We’re referring to Tom Haughton who is introduced in the second episode of the season as one of two new players to enter the game this season. Upon meeting Tom, he informs us that he happens to be a resident of the Tower of London as his father was named the Constable of the Tower and offered to allow him to live in the residence.

Across the season, Tom references the Tower of London on several occasions, even inviting his Circle fam to come join him for a visit after the game. While the Tower of London seems like a popular destination for Tom as a UK native, the rest of his Circle contestants don’t seem to have a clue as to what the Tower of London is — understandably so.

It’s not exactly a destination many US natives have heard of before which makes it understandable that Tom’s fellow players aren’t aware of its origins. So what exactly is the Tower of London?

What is the Tower of London?

The Tower of London is a historic castle located in the heart of the city, on the north bank of the River Thames. It was founded in 1066 by William the Conqueror and has served as a royal palace, a treasury, a menagerie, and a prison throughout its long history. It is now a popular tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Tower of London is made up of several buildings, including the White Tower, the Chapel of St. John, and the Royal Mint. It is also home to the Crown Jewels, which are on display for visitors to see. The castle is surrounded by high walls and towers, and is guarded by the famous Yeoman Warders, also known as the “Beefeaters.”

The Tower of London has a rich and varied history. It has been used as a royal residence, a treasury, and a prison, and has played host to many important historical figures, including Anne Boleyn, Sir Walter Raleigh, and the Princes in the Tower. It has also been the site of numerous important events, including the coronation of several English monarchs and the execution of three queens. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of the city’s history and culture.
