The Witcher: Blood Origin cast and characters guide
By Mads Lennon
We still have a long wait ahead of us before The Witcher season 3 premieres on Netflix, but there is a new series set in The Witcher universe coming to Netflix on Dec. 25. The Witcher: Blood Origin takes place more than a thousand years before Geralt of Rivia came into existence.
The prequel series will dig into the events that led to the creation of the first Witcher and the cataclysmic event known as the Conjunction of the Spheres. While the new show isn’t about the characters we’ve already come to know and love (except Jaskier, who does appear!), Blood Origin introduces us to a great new cast with talented actors like Michelle Yeoh, Sir Lenny Henry, Minnie Driver, and more.
Get to know the cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin below.
Meet The Witcher: Blood Origin cast
Sophia Brown as Éile
British actress Sophia Brown plays the former Queen’s guard warrior Éile. By the time we meet Éile, she has left the monarchy behind and now travels the land as a bard. You might recognize Brown from the Peacock/BBC series The Capture, where she played Karen Merville. She also starred in the British noir detective series Marcella as DC Leanne Hunter.
Michelle Yeoh as Scían
Award-winning Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh, 60, stars as Scían, the last of her tribe of nomadic sword elves. Yeoh is an incredible talent and one of the best parts of The Witcher: Blood Origin. She’s had an excellent year with the release of her acclaimed film Everything Everywhere All at Once, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination and is likely to get attention at the Academy Awards, too.
Some of her other notable roles include Holy Weapon, Tomorrow Never Dies, Crazy Rich Asians, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Yeoh has several upcoming projects, including the Avatar film sequels, The Tiger’s Apprentice, A Haunting in Venice, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and the forthcoming Wicked adaptation from John M. Chu.
Minnie Driver as Seanchai
Academy Award-nominated English actress Minnie Driver, 57, joined the cast late in the game as Seanchai, the series’ narrator who shares her scenes with Joey Batey’s Jaskier.
Driver has been working in the industry since the early 1990s and is known for her performances in projects such as Grosse Pointe Blank, The Riches, The Phantom of the Opera, Cinderella, and Speechless. She’ll next star in the coming-of-age drama One Winter and the dark comedy film Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose.
Laurence O’Fuarain as Fjall
Laurence O’Fuarain is an up-and-coming Irish actor who has appeared in notable genre shows like Game of Thrones, Into the Badlands, and Vikings. Next, he’ll star in the horror-thriller film Creepers. In The Witcher: Blood Origin, O’Fuarain plays Fjall, a disgraced warrior on a path seeking vengeance.
Lenny Henry as Balor
Sir Lenny Henry, 64, is an acclaimed and accomplished British entertainer and one of the most notable Black British comedians of his time. He’s known for his stand-up comedy and impressions, which led to The Lenny Henry Show.
In recent years, Sir Henry has starred in projects like Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (as Sadoc Burrows), and he played Martin Tenbones in the Netflix series The Sandman. You might also recognize him from the 1990s BBC comedy series Chef!. In Blood Origin, he plays Chief Sage Balor, a power-hungry and ambitious elf who will do almost anything for power and chaos magic.
Mirren Mack as Merwyn
Sex Education fans might recognize Scottish actress Mirren Mack as Florence, but in Blood Origin, Mack plays Princess Merwyn, a royal heir to the elven kingdom of Xin’trea. The 25-year-old actress has done a lot of stage work over the years and appeared in television shows like Dalgliesh and The Nest.
