Emily in Paris might primarily focus on Emily Cooper as she tries to balance work, friends, and romance while living in Paris, but the side characters are also just as important. According to Gabriel, to get a Michelin star, a restaurant’s food has to be of excellent quality all the time, and the chef has to make sure their personality comes through their cuisine. Then, a chef can only hope that when anonymous Michelin inspectors come to try their food, they love it enough to give out the prestigious award. And a restaurant can’t change how they do things after getting a star, either. They must maintain the same quality of food to keep it.

It’s a lengthy process to acquire a Michelin star. Different inspectors visit the restaurant to assess the quality of the food. They do this to make sure a restaurant constantly provides outstanding cooking. According to Michelin Guide, once several inspectors have visited a restaurant and tried the food, they come together to discuss their experiences before making a decision.

This can be stressful for chefs and their employees because they must constantly be on their toes. But a Michelin star is a highly coveted award in the culinary arts world, so the inspectors don’t want to give it to just anybody.
