While many might not be ready to say goodbye to another year, others are excited to begin 2023 because of all the awesome shows returning in the new year. Netflix might not have a new season of Stranger Things in 2023, but the streamer is still set to have a huge year with the likes of Outer Banks season 3, Shadow and Bone season 2, The Witcher season 3, and of course, the very highly-anticipated You season 4. The Penn Badgley-led thriller has become one of Netflix’s most popular series and it’s not hard to understand why.

Last we saw Joe Goldberg (Badgley) in You season 3, he was in one of the most compromising situations of his life, on the verge of getting caught, until he figured out his master plan. Now, fans can get ready to jet off to London, England, where Joe will pose as a professor named Jonathan Moore. It’s bound to be another eventful installment as we see what’s next for Joe.

What to expect from You season 4

And as a little holiday treat, You showrunner Sara Gamble chatted with Entertainment Weekly and teased what we can expect from season 4.

Along with a new photo from the upcoming season featuring Badgley and actor Lukas Gage, Gamble revealed some of the thought processes behind what happens in season 4.

The writers knew You season 4 would have to be different enough from previous seasons to make it worth watching. As we follow the serial killer protagonist season after season, it would be easy for the story to become repetitive, which is something that seems to always be on Gamble’s mind.

“We knew we were going to have to embrace that the show was going to change from season to season,” Gamble says. “It would have to be a different kind of thriller, in addition to being a different kind of love story.”

In one of the photos from You season 4, Joe appears to be getting close to a character named Kate (Charlotte Ritchie). Will she be his new love interest? As with all the seasons, we can expect Joe to fall for someone yet again in the new episodes, but the story itself is taking a different tone, leaning into the whodunnit genre.

“It doesn’t matter how many whodunnits I read or see, they still are so compelling,” Gamble adds. “It’s just a really fun genre. And maybe the first very famous serial killer is from London with Jack the Ripper, so we very quickly started to talk about classic whodunnit structures — Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie.”

Back in June, Badgley teased how much of a departure the fourth season would be, telling Entertainment Tonight, “It’s almost like we’re shifting the genre slightly. And I think it works.”

Will You season 4 resemble that of the movie Knives Out or Clue in season 4? It sure sounds like it, but there’s only one way to find out! You season 4 will be split into two parts, with the first premiering on Netflix on Feb. 10, 2023, and the second part releasing a month later on March 10, 2023. We can’t wait to watch it!
