Sure, you might love the outpouring of Hallmark romantic holiday movies each year, but one of the most glaringly obvious oversights of these movies is their insistence on telling the stories of straight, white couples. Thankfully, that’s starting to change, and Netflix has also helped steer the Christmas rom-com genre into a more diverse direction with movies such as Single All the Way.

This addition to the streamer’s holiday lineup stars Michael Urie as Peter, who calls on his best friend Nick (Philemon Chambers) to pose as his boyfriend for the holidays to skirt his family’s constant nagging about being single. However, when his mother (Kathy Najimy) takes it upon herself to set up Peter with her trainer James (Luke Macfarlane), his original plan suddenly receives a snag that just might change his course for the better.

Beyond its intriguing premise and inclusivity, the movie also stars Jennifer Coolidge, who’s a beloved comedy performer and an icon to the queer community. Naturally, Single All the Way feels like a breath of fresh air and a must-watch movie each year for the holidays.
