Does Gilmore Girls have a Christmas episode?
By Reed Gaudens
Every fall, Gilmore Girls fans around the world restart the adored mother-daughter dramedy series for the millionth time. There’s something about the fall season that’s also the perfect time to catch back up with Lorelai and Rory.
While Gilmore Girls might be known for their kinship to fall, Lorelai Gilmore also has an emotional attachment to snow that makes the series an ideal watch during winter. Just as Lorelai can smell the first snow before it falls, Gilmore fans can sense the best episodes to watch when the temperature drops to near-freezing.
But does the hit WB/CW series have any Christmas episodes for fans to watch? The season 3 Thanksgiving episode is classic, and you better believe the Gilmores know how to know to celebrate Christmas, too.
Gilmore Girls Christmas episodes
Because of its setting in Stars Hollow, Connecticut, a fictional small town outside of Hartford, the snowy exterior of the series made multiple episodes feel Christmassy without even trying. But there were in fact multiple episodes of the beloved series that actually took place during the holidays.
Here are all of the Christmas-theme episodes of Gilmore Girls:
- Season 1, episode 10: “Forgiveness and Stuff”
- Season 2, episode 10: “The Bracebridge Dinner”
- Season 7, episode 10: “Merry Fisticuffs”
- Season 7, episode 11: “Santa’s Secret Stuff”
- A Year in the Life episode 1: “Winter”
The first season celebrates Christmas in true Gilmore fashion, which means there were complicated family matters aplenty, but there’s also the appearance of Luke’s iconic Santa burger. Rather than celebrating the holidays, season 2 rings in the equally chaotic Bracebridge Dinner.
Gilmore Girls doesn’t prominently feature the Christmas holiday again until the final season, when Luke and Christopher come to physical blows in “Merry Fisticuffs,” then Lorelai celebrates the holiday in January when Rory returns home from her trip to London.
Of course, the first episode of Netflix’s A Year in the Life miniseries takes place during the winter quarter of the titular year in the life. Once again, Lorelai revels in the snow and Star Hollow twinkles with Christmas lights and decorations. It’s an annual must-watch!
