Firefly Lane season 2, episode 6 recap: Reborn on the Fourth of July

It’s the Fourth of July in Firefly Lane season 2, episode 6, and that means it’s time to party! In the 1970s, Lisa-Karen meddles in Tully and Kate’s friendship, while in the 2000s, Tully throws a big Fourth of July party that leads to a reconciliation for Johnny and Kate.

1970s

Kate’s parents host a Fourth of July party, and Tully attends with Cloud. Cloud has been sober for a bit and is still trying to play the housewife part, for now. But things quickly go sideways at the party when a man tries to hit on Cloud and grows forceful with her. That, in combination with some catty comments from some of the other women at the party, causes Cloud to bail on her goals and start drinking.

Elsewhere, Kate finally has her first kiss with Eugene, and it’s…bad, to say the least. After, Eugene says he’s glad Tully turned him down because he likes Kate better now, and Kate is a little offended by that. She confronts Tully, telling her she doesn’t need her leftovers, and Lisa-Karen overhears. She uses that moment to tell Kate that she saw Tully and Sean hooking up, which only pisses Kate off more.

Later, Cloud gets very drunk off the punch while Lisa-Karen watches (and judges). Then she goes to the dance floor and dances erratically. Tully tries to help her, but Cloud falls over, and when she gets up, she takes her top off. Tully has to take care of her mother yet again, and despite their fight, Kate ends up helping her, and they make up, agreeing not to let boys come between them. Tully also tells Kate that she and Sean aren’t a couple; their hook-up was just a one-time thing.

1980s

Danny and Tully continue hooking up despite competing against each other for the weekend anchor job. But then Danny accepts a job at ESPN in New York and decides to leave KPOC, giving Tully the job by default. She’s happy but also a little disappointed that Danny is leaving, even though neither is willing to admit to their true feelings.

At KPOC’s Fourth of July party, Kate and Johnny break up instead of moving in together. Kate realizes that they don’t want the same things. Johnny doesn’t want kids or marriage, but Kate does, and she thinks it’ll be harder for them if they wait, so it’s better to just break up now.

2000s

In the 2000s, Tully throws a big July 4th party at Kate’s house. Kate invites Johnny and Charlie, sort of by accident, and Charlie finally tells Johnny that she has feelings for him. She tells him to think about it before responding.

But it’s not looking good for Calvin or Charlie since Kate and Johnny finally get back together by the end of the party. Then we skip ahead one week to the night of the car crash. Tully was in the accident with Marah.
