Wednesday has arrived on Netflix and if you’ve made it to this post, chances are you too were curious to know more about Wednesday’s unique sidekick Thing, a disembodied hand who plays a key role in the show.

As Thing is a disembodied hand in the show in a fantasy show full of CGI, it’s easy to find yourself questioning whether the character is entirely CGI or if there was an actor brought in to help bring the character to life.

Given how far technology has come, you might believe that Thing is entirely CGI and generated using the magic of computers; however, the truth is that the character is actually played by an actor! That’s right, the character of Thing in Wednesday was played by an actor with CGI then used to help bring the character to life on the show.

Thing actor Wednesday on Netflix

Thing in Wednesday is played by Victor Dorobantu, who actually make his acting debut in Thing. While Wednesday marks Dorobantu’s first acting role, he’s no stranger to the entertainment industry as Dorobantu is a trained magician, illusionist, and events entertainer — which is perhaps what helped him to secure the role of Thing.

Magicians and illusionists often rely on a sleight of hand to achieve various acts, and the task of playing Thing is no small feat as you have to convey so much emotion using just one’s hand. So bringing in a trained illusionist to help play Thing in Wednesday was a brilliant idea that fully paid off as it’s unreal how much emotion and personality Dorobantu brings to the character.

Does Thing die in Wednesday?

It feels crazy to think about how emotionally attached Wednesday manages to make audiences to a character who literally never speaks a line of dialogue. However, Victor Dorobantu delivers such a masterful performer that makes it easy to become attached to Thing in a way one might not have predicted.

So when Thing is found stabbed to the wall in the seventh episode of the season, you might find yourself in a state of distress. While things don’t look good in the moment and we almost do lose him, we’re happy to report that Thing does not die and pulls through what could have been a fatal attack.
