Manifest season 4 episode 5 recap: Squawk
Vance arrives at Michaela and Zeke’s house in the middle of the night in a panic looking for Ben. He explains the situation about brokering the deal with Eagan, and Ben going off on the mission without backup. Ironically, Jared arrives at Adrian’s boarding house to investigate Erika’s bulk purchase of fertilizer. While Jared investigates, Ben sits in the basement, gagged and tied up. Eden follows a Calling of bee to the basement, where she reunites with Ben… until Angelina ruins it.
Erika approaches Angelina and shows her the collection of explosives she has made out of the fertilizer on the off chance the police arrive. Michaela’s own bee Calling leads Drea to connect the dots, and Jared and Zeke join her in saving Ben and Eden. In Ben’s attempts to escape, he writes the 828 seat numbers of the passengers in the house on the window, which Michaela clocks.
All of the passengers turn against Adrian for harboring Angelina, and she threatens to detonate the bombs. Donovan escapes to help Ben, but Erika knocks him out and holds Ben at gunpoint. In spite of Michaela’s protests, Cal enters the house on his own to talk to Angelina while Michaela, Zeke, and Jared save Ben, Eden, and the rest of the passengers.
Angelina still detonates the bombs, and while they don’t immediately explode, Cal remains in the house with Angelina. Ben hands Eden off to Michaela and intends to rush back in as the bombs go off. Thankfully, Cal walks out of the destruction unscathed. Later, Zeke senses that Erika is about to shoot Michaela, causing him to grab Jared’s gun and kill Erika.
Biggest Revelations:
- Zeke’s empathy powers start to malfunction.
- Cal coughs throughout the episode, suggesting there’s something wrong with him beyond his scar and Callings. In the end, he coughs up blood.
- A flashback reveals Angelina’s mother Noelle kicks her out after she kidnaps Eden and returns home. She then planned to jump off the bridge, but Eden says “mama,” reaffirming her belief that Eden’s her guardian angel. Angelina drops the backpack over the ledge instead, which led to the police’s speculation of the murder-suicide.
- Saanvi tests herself in the Bird Nest’s fMRI machine to test the theory that the passengers can communicate through ultra-low frequencies like peacocks. She tests Cal’s scar and then his brain in the fMRI machine. His brain scan glows while he has a Calling of Ben and Eden. Due to the strange circumstances of Cal’s Calling, she wonders if Callings are actually memories.
- Cal and Violet have a moment after the explosion.
- Adrian finds Angelina lying alive in the road. He puts her in his car and has a Calling of falling ash.
