Manifest season 4 episode 10 recap: Inversion Illusion

After being absent from episode 9, Angelina makes her triumphant comeback. She walks through the city with the Omega Sapphire in hand, the sidewalk cracking behind her. Eagan reveals to Michaela and Jared that she’s the one who knocked him out and stole the gem. Michaela wonders how Angelina found out about the sapphire, and while Eagan doesn’t know, we’re going to assume Angelina was on the other end of the “unknown caller” call in the previous episode.

Ben takes Eden to visit Grace’s gravesite when she asks to see her “mommy,” after a Calling of Grace hits Ben in the heartstrings. In the cemetery, Grace asks Ben to give Eden back to Angelina, and Ben realizes she isn’t really Grace. Angelina stands nearby giving him a false Calling with the Omega Sapphire. She holds Ben at gunpoint, but Eden chooses to stay with Ben. Grabbing the Omega Sapphire, Angelina screams and it causes every passenger immense pain.

The Devotional pamphlet in Eagan’s bag, which appeared in Michaela’s Calling, came from Noelle and gives Michaela a Calling of a shattering stained-glass angel. Olive remembers the Calling from her first encounter with Angelina, leading Ben and Michaela to track her down at her old school. Angelina believes she’s an archangel and has opened volcanic fissures in the school, with innocent people frightened and trapped. Michaela holds her at gunpoint, but a false Calling of Evie spooks Mick and the gun falls into the lava.

Zeke spends the day with Cal watching baseball and taking his mind off of his final hours of pain, while Olive and TJ continue researching to save Cal. Olive theorizes that the sapphire could tip Ma’at’s scales of judgment and save humanity. They use a camera to photograph the papyrus and see it through a different lens, revealing the Draco “dragon” constellation, which mirrors Cal’s scar. As Saanvi discovers, his scar contains sapphire, and he pulls Angelina into a Calling on 828 to plead for her stop. She retaliates with a vision of Grace asking him to give up.

Cal realizes that isn’t really his mother, and when he grabs the sapphire in Angelina’s hand, it shatters. When he comes out of the Calling, he tells Zeke “it’s time.” On his way to bring Olive downstairs, Zeke overhears Olive and TJ discussing Cal being the key to save them all. In that moment, Zeke decides to take on Cal’s pain and sacrifice himself. He calls Michaela to say goodbye and explain that this was the reason they were brought together, but when she arrives home, he dies after promising to see her again under the stars. Ben and Olive stand at Cal’s bedside as he wakes up fully recovered.

Biggest Revelations:

  • Athena Karkanis makes a surprise cameo appearance as Grace (well, Angelina’s fake version of Grace) in three new scenes.
  • Jared starts his first day on the job as a Registry detective. He’s shut down when he attempts to openly help passengers (and treat them with respect). The effects of the Omega Sapphire cause the Registry to detain all Flight 828 passengers.
  • Saanvi and Vance worry about the catastrophic side effects of misusing the Omega Sapphire, and Saanvi puts a call into Dr. Gupta to help out. Unfortunately, Gupta double crosses Saanvi and reports the Bird’s Nest to the government for invasion.
  • Shattered glass and bricks fall on Angelina in the church, but she survives. She reaches out for the last remaining piece of glowing Omega Sapphire, and it falls into the lava. When she grabs the gem, it burns and crystallizes in her hand. As her arm turns to some sort of stone or metal, she trudges out of the school with the sapphire glowing in her palm. Volcanic fissures are spreading through the city.
