The Upshaws renewed for third season at Netflix

The hilarious Netflix sitcom The Upshaws, starring Wanda Sykes, is returning for a third season! According to a new exclusive from Variety, the series will be back for additional episodes in early 2023, followed by a third season.

Sykes stars as Lucretia Turner, older sister to Upshaw family matriarch Regina (Kim Fields). The Upshaws are a black working-class family living in Indiana. The series follows their daily lives as they struggle to make things work with a large family of colorful personalities that occasionally clash.

Sykes and Fields are joined in the cast by Mike Epps, Page Kennedy, Diamond Lyons, Khali Spraggins, Jermelle Simon, Gabrielle Dennis, and Journey Christine. Sykes also co-created the series with Regina Y. Hicks.

Netflix renews The Upshaws for a third season

The Upshaws season 2 part 1 premiered on June 29, 2022, and the second half of the sophomore season will debut sometime in early 2023. Then, on top of that, there will be another season.

It can be a little confusing to figure out the difference between “parts” and “seasons,” as Netflix sometimes divides its shows when they have a longer episode count.

The Upshaws season 2 has 16 episodes in total, with the first half dropping this past June and the next half coming next year. We do not yet have an episode count for The Upshaws season 3, nor is it clear if it will be split into two parts again. It will likely depend on how many episodes Netflix orders for season 3.

It’s hard to estimate when The Upshaws season 3 might premiere since we still don’t have an exact date for season 2 part 2 yet. So far, only one season (or part) has been released per year, so it seems likely that the third season won’t come out until 2024.

The Upshaws season 1 and season 2 part 1 are now streaming on Netflix. Season 2 part 2 will debut sometime in 2023.
