Is Parkfield Memorial Hospital from The Good Nurse a real place?

The Good Nurse is now streaming on Netflix. Based on the 2013 book The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder by Charles Graeber, the thriller film tells the true story of the brave nurse, Amy Loughren, who aided police in arresting serial killer Charles Cullen.

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Tobias Lindholm directed the film from a screenplay written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns. It follows Amy Loughren, a caring nurse with a life-threatening heart condition at her wits’ end while working the night shifts in the intensive care unit at Parkfield Memorial Hospital in New Jersey. But then help arrives when new nurse Charlie Cullen (Charles Cullen) joins the unit and quickly makes friends with Amy. They form a close bond, and Amy feels things are finally looking up for her. That’s until a series of mysterious patient deaths sets off an investigation that casts Charlie in a suspicious light.

The Good Nurse: Is Parkfield Memorial Hospital a real place?

Parkfield Memorial Hospital is not a real hospital located in New Jersey. So, you will not be able to be treated there. However, it’s based on the real hospital where Amy and Charles actually worked called Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, New Jersey.

Charles began working at Somerset Medical Center in the critical care unit in September 2002. He had already murdered many patients at other hospitals but was still able to find work at Somerset. While at Somerset, he meets Amy and they become fast friends.

Shortly after starting at the unit, Charles begins murdering patients again by administering a lethal dose of drugs like insulin, digoxin, and epinephrine into their IV bags. Charles was finally arrested in December 2003 with the help of Amy. In 2006, Charles was convicted of 29 murders and sentenced to 11 consecutive life terms. But he’s believed to have been responsible for 400 patient deaths by many experts. As of Oct. 26, he is currently serving 18 consecutive life sentences in New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, New Jersey.
