The Stranger is an Australian thriller film written and helmed by Thomas M. Wright. Other than Edgerton, the rest of the amazing cast includes Sean Harris, Steve Mouzakis, Jada Alberts, Brendan Cooney, Mike Foenander, Alan Dukes, Matthew Sunderland, and Jeff Lang.

So, what is The Stranger about? Is it appropriate for kids? Find out the answers to these questions and more below!

What is The Stranger starring Joel Edgerton about?

It’s a Netflix film inspired by real-life events and is based on the tragic true crime case of the abduction and murder of 13-year-old Queensland schoolboy, Daniel Morcombe. However, the names of all those involved in the real case have been changed for the movie, and not everything that happened in the film actually happened in real life.

Joel Edgerton and Sean Harris lead the cast as two strangers who strike up a conversation that turns into an intense friendship. But one is a suspected murderer in an unsolved missing person’s case, and the other is an undercover cop hot on his trail. The undercover operative, played by Edgerton, forms a strong bond with the suspect (Harris) to try to earn his trust and elicit a confession. Will the undercover cop and the rest of his team finally catch the murderer who has evaded conviction for eight years? Find out by watching The Stranger.

The Stranger parents guide and age rating

Given the subject matter, it comes as no surprise that the film is rated TV-MA. This means it’s meant to be watched by mature audiences only. It was given this age rating for strong language and smoking. There might also be scenes shown that many parents would consider inappropriate for younger kids to watch. Overall, we recommend watching The Stranger when no kids are around.
