Unsolved Mysteries season 3 episode 2 recap: “Something in the Sky”

Unlike many of the Unsolved Mysteries episodes, the second one in volume 3 isn’t about true crime. Instead, it follows the time that hundreds of people in Michigan reported sightings of multiple UFOs in the sky. This took place in March 1994.

“Something in the Sky” features interviews with multiple observers that night, who explain what happened. All of them remember seeing glaring bright lights in their yards or on the street, with many even seeing cylinder saucers in the sky moving at high speeds.

Jack Bushong, a retired meteorologist, was working at the National Weather Service in Michigan when he heard about these reports. He followed the objects in the sky on the weather radar and was shocked by what he saw. As a man of science, he was a little doubtful about the call he received but everything changed when he saw it for himself.

According to Jack, the objects’ movements signaled to him that these weren’t military aircraft, and he reported at one point watching one get up to a speed of 72,000 miles an hour. He explained that no technology he knew of could achieve that feat. The sightings stopped by the next day, but the story of that night made national news.

Were there UFOs in Michigan in 1994?

To this day, it has never been confirmed what those objects up in the sky were. Of course, it seems like they could’ve been extraterrestrial UFOs, but there’s no way to be sure. Jack eventually left Michigan and relocated after realizing there was little he could do and fearing he wouldn’t be taken seriously in his field of work if he talked about UFOs. Years later, however, he returned to the case and is still trying to investigate what those objects were.
