Supernatural cast: Where are they now?

It’s hard to believe that Supernatural ended just a little under two years ago, although the show’s legacy continues this fall television season with the spinoff show The Winchesters.

Two years can be a long time in the acting world, too, as many of the actors from the show have gone on to new, exciting projects. Many of them are also working together again, some even on the same network!

While Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are the heart and soul of Supernatural as the Winchester brothers, you don’t have a show with 15 seasons and 300+ episodes without seeing a lot of other beloved characters come and go. Below we’ll take a look at some of the most popular cast members and see what they’re up to now.

Where is the Supernatural cast now?

Jensen Ackles

Jensen Ackles played the pie-loving, demon-ganking elder Winchester brother Dean for all 15 seasons of the show and it turns out he’s not quite ready to say goodbye to Supernatural as he’s returned to reprise his role as Dean (as the narrator) in the spinoff series The Winchesters. Ackles also serves as an executive producer on the show with his wife and fellow actress, Danneel Ackles.

Besides that, Supernatural fans have been able to watch Ackles move on to exciting new projects like playing Soldier Boy on the hit Prime Video series The Boys and his current stint on the ABC series Big Sky as the character Beau Arlen. Next, Ackles will voice Batman again in the upcoming DC animated film Legion of Super-Heroes after previously voicing the character in Batman: The Long Halloween.

Jared Padalecki

Jared Padalecki is the series co-lead opposite Ackles. He played Dean’s younger brother Sam Winchester for all 15 seasons of the show. Like his co-stars Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins, Jared Padalecki has opted to stick around on The CW for the foreseeable future. He’s currently starring in the series Walker, a reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger. Walker is currently in its third season and even has a spinoff called Walker: Independence.

Misha Collins

Even though Misha Collins didn’t start his Supernatural tenure until the show’s fourth season, he’s undeniably become a core part of what made the show work for so long.

Since the series ended, Collins went on to have his own PBS show called Roadfood: Discovering America One Dish at a Time. Next, he’ll star as Harvey Dent in the DCTV/CW series Gotham Knights.

Jim Beaver

Even though Jim Beaver was never officially a series regular, he was an integral part of the Winchester family and Supernatural. He appeared at least once in every season of the show as the lovable father figure Bobby Singer. Bobby helped Sam and Dean get out of countless scrapes throughout his time on the show.

After Supernatural ended, Beaver went on to star in the Guillermo del Toro film Nightmare Alley and then had a recurring role on the CBS sitcom B Positive. Next, he’ll appear in the horror anthology feature Kindling, which also stars Friday the 13th scream queen, Adrienne Barbeau.

Mark Sheppard

Mark Sheppard played the conniving demon Crowley in a recurring capacity from season 5 to season 9. He was promoted to a series regular for the tenth season and then exited the series after season 12.

Since leaving Supernatural, Mark Sheppard went on to recur in Mania City and Doom Patrol where he played the comic book character Willoughby Kipling. In 2022, Sheppard reunited with Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki to recur in Walker: Independence as Nathaniel Hagan, which Padalecki executive produces.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Even though Jeffrey Dean Morgan was not in that many episodes compared to the rest of the cast, it’s undeniable that he had a significant impact. The series started with Sam and Dean trying to find their dad, John Winchester, and Morgan returned to reprise his role multiple times throughout all 15 seasons.

Morgan has also maintained a close friendship with his on-screen sons Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. His final appearance in Supernatural was in season 14, but beyond the long-running CW show, Morgan is best known for playing Negan in The Walking Dead. He’ll next star in The Walking Dead spinoff series The Walking Dead: Dead City alongside Lauren Cohan.

He also appeared in an episode of The Walking Dead: Origins and guest-starred on Norman Reedus’ show Ride a couple of times. Next, Morgan will follow in Ackles’ footsteps by recurring on The Boys, which was created by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke.

Outside of television, Morgan has also appeared in a few movies in the last few years, including Fall, The Unholy, and The Integrity of Joseph Chambers.

Alexander Calvert

Alexander Calvert joined the show in the season 12 finale and was upped to a series regular for seasons 13-15. He played Jack Kline and Belphegor. Calvert is the latest Supernatural alum to join The Boys universe and has been cast in The Boys spinoff series Gen V.

Katie Cassidy

After originating the role of the demon Ruby in season 3 of Supernatural, Katie Cassidy went on to star as Laurel Lance/Black Canary/Black Siren in the DCTV universe, starting out on Arrow but also crossing over to shows like Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash.

Since Arrow wrapped, Cassidy has appeared in a couple of movies like the romantic crime drama I Love Us and the spy-action thriller Agent Game.

Richard Speight Jr.

Richard Speight Jr. played the archangel Gabriel in Supernatural, appearing sporadically throughout the show’s runtime. Since then, he has appeared in movies like Old Henry, Driven, and Our Friend. He also guest-starred in an episode of The CW series Kung Fu earlier this year.

Lauren Cohan

Lauren Cohan had a brief but memorable role in Supernatural as con artist Bela Talbot in the third season. Even though it was a minor part, she was still technically a series regular during that season. But Cohan’s career really took off after her character was killed off Supernatural as she was later cast in The Walking Dead as Maggie Greene.

Cohan was on the zombie apocalypse series for several years before exiting to headline her own show, Whiskey Cavalier, on ABC. Unfortunately, the series was canceled after just one season and Cohan later returned to The Walking Dead. She’ll remain in the universe when she co-stars with Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the upcoming spinoff series The Walking Dead: Dead City.

Cohan also voices Julia Pennyworth in the animated DC film Catwoman: Hunted. She’ll next star in the end-of-the-world YA romance film When I’m Ready and the upcoming Norse mythology Zack Snyder Netflix series Twilight of the Gods.

Rob Benedict

Rob Benedict played the prophet, Chuck, on Supernatural. In recent years he has guest-starred on shows like Lucifer, NCIS: Hawai’i, and Leverage: Redemption. Next, he’ll star in the film ClearMind.

Ruth Connell

Ruth Connell is known for playing the powerful witch and Crowley’s mother, Rowena MacLeod. She was the main antagonist in season 10 and continued appearing on the show throughout the rest of its run.

Connell played Night Nurse in Doom Patrol season 3 and will next star in the dark comedy film Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose alongside Simon Pegg and Minnie Driver. She will reprise her role as Night Nurse in the upcoming HBO Max series Dead Boy Detectives.

Kim Rhodes

Kim Rhodes is known for playing one of the Winchester’s allies, Sheriff Jody Mills. Jody was also a close friend of Bobby Singer’s and she appeared in many episodes between season 5 and season 15.

Since Supernatural, Rhodes has voiced a character in the video game Vegas Tales and she recently guest-starred on the third (and current) season of The CW series Kung Fu.

Genevieve Padalecki

Genevieve Padalecki started on Supernatural in the show’s fourth season as a demon antagonist and love interest for Sam. That love also blossomed off-screen as Genevieve and Jared Padalecki got married in real life. They now have three children together.

Padalecki appeared as a series regular in the show’s fourth season and then returned for a few guest stints. She and her husband are currently working together in The CW series Walker where the actress occasionally recurs as Cordell Walker’s late wife Emily Walker via flashbacks.

Felicia Day

Felicia Day only appeared in 11 episodes of Supernatural, but she is a fan-favorite character and one of the few openly LGBTQ characters on the series. Day is generally best known for her voice acting work, particularly for projects like Critical Role and The Legend of Vox Machina.

She is currently playing Kinga Forrester in Mystery Science Theater 3000. Nowadays you can catch her hosting podcasts like The Official The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Podcast and The Walking Dead: Last Mile. She has also hosted Geeked Week content for Netflix.
