Derry Girls season 4 updates: Will there be another season on Netflix?

The hilarious and poignant British coming-of-age series Derry Girls has ended, and fans are already mourning the loss on social media. Derry Girls season 4 is already a talking point as people wonder if the show could return in some form.

Starring Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, and Dylan Llewellyn, Derry Girls is a fantastic series written and created by Lisa McGee for Channel 4, but the show found a massive international fanbase when Netflix picked up international distribution.

Since then, the show’s popularity has only gotten more significant as newcomers find the show and become just as endeared with the Derry girls and their adventures in Northern Ireland throughout the 1990s. Will there be a Derry Girls season 4?

Sadly no, there will not be a Derry Girls season 4. Series creator Lisa McGee shared a statement in September 2021 announcing the end of the series.

According to McGee, she always intended to end the saga after just three series, so at least the show got a fitting end, and McGee got to tell the story she wanted! She also ends on a hopeful note, adding that perhaps someday we will see the titular Derry girls again, perhaps in another format. Maybe we’ll get a reunion movie or special a few years from now.

Will there be a Derry Girls spinoff?

As mentioned above, McGee teased that we could see characters like Orla, Clare, Erin, Michelle, and James again someday. It’s possible that a spinoff could happen at some point, but for now, this is the end of Derry Girls.

All three seasons of the series are now streaming on Netflix.
