Netflix reveals what actor is playing Uncle Fester in the new Wednesday series

During NYCC, Netflix debuted the official full-length trailer for the highly-anticipated Addams Family spinoff series Wednesday, arriving this November. In addition to giving us a trailer and lots of new photos from the show, Netflix also revealed what actor is playing the role of Uncle Fester!

Rumors were circulating on the internet that Johnny Depp was secretly cast in the role thanks to his previous relationship with Tim Burton, but those rumors have turned out not to be true.

Saturday Night Live veteran Fred Armisen will instead play the role of the creepy, hairless fan-favorite character!

Fred Armisen is a notable actor, comedian, writer, and producer who has starred in many comedy shows and movies, most notably on SNL and shows like Portlandia. Most recently, Armisen has appeared in films like Clerks III, Netflix film The Bubble, and Spin Me Round. He also guest-starred in episodes of What We Do in the Shadows and Our Flag Means Death.

Fred Armisen to play Uncle Fester in Wednesday

Armisen joins the ranks of many actors that have played Uncle Fester over the years, including, perhaps most famously, Christopher Lloyd. He’s also been played by Jackie Coogan, Patrick Thomas, Michael Roberds, Kevin Chamberlin, Brad Oscar, Russell Dykstra, and Dawson Russo.

Even comedian Nick Kroll recently got his chance to bring Uncle Fester to life when he voiced the character in the 2019 animated Addams Family movie and its 2021 sequel. Armisen and Kroll have previously worked together on the Netflix animated series Big Mouth.

Besides Armisen, Wednesday‘s cast includes Jenna Ortega, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, Riki Lindhome, Naomi J Ogawa, Jamie McShane, Emma Myers, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, and more.
