Respect your elders… unless they’re trying to kill you like in the new German Netflix horror movie Old People. Yes, it’s titled “Old People,” and the plot is as straightforward as one might expect: a group of senior citizens go on a murderous rampage. The trailer hints at more to it than that, but that’s the gist of it presented by the Netflix logline.
This German feature from Andy Fetscher should appeal to anyone who likes slasher movies similar to the Fear Street trilogy, Hush, or The Strangers. Remember how scary Stephen Lang was in Don’t Breathe? Or the cultists from Midsommar? Well, Old People appears to tap into a similar vibe.
Ella returns to her hometown with her two children to attend her sister’s wedding, but things quickly go haywire when she has to protect them from old people on a killing spree. If you watch the trailer, there also appears to be some ancient relic (isn’t there always?) at the center of everything that could be related to why the elderly are trying to kill everyone.
Unfortunately, Netflix has not shared the trailer on YouTube, but you can watch it from the official Netflix page for the movie.
Netflix Old People runtime
The movie has a runtime of 100 minutes, meaning it is 1 hour and 40 minutes long.

A thunderstorm hits, and suddenly the elderly residents of a retirement home begin acting strangely and attacking the young caretakers with increasing brutality.
The official Netflix plot synopsis for the movie is as follows, “Ella is on the way back to her hometown with her kids for her sister’s wedding. The remote little village has changed a lot since she left: young people have long moved away, leaving mostly the old folks behind, seemingly forgotten by the rest of the world. When a huge thunderstorm hits the little town the night of the wedding, the residents of a retirement home start behaving strangely. Led by a giant retiree, a group of elderly inmates attacks the young caretakers with horrific brutality. Following a blackout, they break down the security doors and escape into the cold rain. The music attracts them to the wedding where soon Ella will have to fight for her family’s survival.”
Old People premieres on Friday, October 7. Will you be watching?
