The Witcher: Blood Origin is officially confirmed for this December
By Mads Lennon
It has been a long time since we’ve gotten any news or updates on the upcoming Witcher prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin. Luckily for fans, that changed at Netflix’s 2022 Tudum event. We finally know when the show is premiering! During TUDUM, Netflix confirmed the prequel would get a December 25 release date, just in time for Christmas.
We also got the announcement from the actress herself that Minnie Driver will be joining the cast!
Releasing Blood Origin at Christmastime makes sense because previous seasons of The Witcher also came out in December. The Witcher season 3 just wrapped filming recently and isn’t ready to be released, so with now third season available this year, Netflix is filling in the gap with the prequel.
According to reports, Blood Origin was supposed to be ready to go much earlier, but Netflix was allegedly unhappy with the final result, and the show has been significantly retooled. Some rumors suggest that more Jaskier was added and that the episode count was reduced to just four episodes rather than six.
We still don’t know the actual episode count, but at least we know when the show is releasing!
The Witcher: Blood Origin is releasing this December 2022
The new series stars Sophia Brown, Michelle Yeoh, Laurence O’Fuarain, Lenny Henry, Mirren Mack, Nathaniel Curtis, and Dylan Moran. It has also been reported that Joey Batey will reprise his fan-favorite of Jaskier in the show.
Given that Blood Origin is set centuries before Jaskier was born, it’s believed that he’ll be part of a narrative framing device. Jaskier will tell the story to someone in the present, and the story will be primarily told via flashback.
We’ll find out for certain on December 25, 2022, when all episodes of The Witcher: Blood Origin are set to release on Netflix.
Are you looking forward to watching The Witcher: Blood Origin when it releases?
