The highly anticipated new Netflix original movie Do Revenge has finally premiered, and viewers are getting their chance to watch Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke team up to take down each other’s enemies.
Inspired by the premise of Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train, Do Revenge follows the fall from grace of Drea (Mendes), the former queen bee of her elite private school. When she meets new student Eleanor (Hawke), the unlikely pair secretly team up to get revenge on those who’ve wronged them.
For Drea, she’s looking to “do revenge” on Max (Austin Abrams), her ex-boyfriend who leaked a private video of her around school. Meanwhile, Eleanor wants to get even with Carissa (Ava Capri), a long-ago camp fling who left her humiliated.
As Drea and Eleanor cross the moral lines of doing whatever it takes to bring their enemies to justice, their own alliance and friendship comes under fire. Does the pair get their revenge, and do they remain friends? Here’s what happens at the end of the movie!
Warning: Spoilers ahead from Do Revenge!
How do Drea and Eleanor get revenge on Max in Do Revenge?
Drea and Eleanor’s plan involves doing each other’s revenge, which is where the Strangers on a Train connection comes into play. After Drea gives Eleanor a makeover, she drops her right into the hornet’s nest that is the popular clique.
The pair put a bunch of chess pieces into play, such as Eleanor attending Max’s birthday party and stealing his phone during the drugged Senior Ring Ceremony, which later allows them to release his text messages to the whole school during an assembly.
Unfortunately, the school-wide conversation turns in favor of Max as his friends help change the narrative from Max cheating on every girl in school to him being sex positive. Suddenly, everyone thinks they have a shot with Max, and Drea and Eleanor need to regroup.
Before their planned takedown at the Admissions Party, Drea and Eleanor’s friendship begins to fracture and, of course, the twist is revealed: Eleanor is actually “Nosy Nora,” and she’s been trying to get revenge on Drea this whole time. It wasn’t Carissa who humiliated her at camp; it was Drea.
A clash and a car accident later, Drea and Eleanor link back up at the Admissions Party, and even though they have to surrender their phones, they each wear cameras on their person. (Double assurance, look it up!) Max confronts them outside, where he admits to his wrongdoings. Although Drea breaks her hidden camera brooch, Eleanor catches the whole confession.
They interrupt the party with video of Max admitting to everything he had done, and in an instant, everyone turns on him. It’s not unlike the stunning reveal at the end of Cruel Intentions when the journal is leaked to the whole school and Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar) goes down in flames.
Do Drea and Eleanor make up in Do Revenge?
Obviously, because Eleanor was secretly trying to bring down Drea under the guise of bringing down someone else, the friendship they had built on the foundation of revenge gets immensely shaky. And Eleanor putting Drea in the hospital doesn’t help matters.
Drea and Eleanor remain on the outs going into the Admissions Party. Now that Drea’s back in the good graces of her popular friends, she teases Eleanor to ease her own wounds, but bullying doesn’t make her feel better anymore — especially not when she cares about Eleanor.
Thankfully, they reconcile when they bring down Max, which helps them realize that they weren’t each other’s enemy. People like Max are their enemy. If anything, they learn along the way about forgiveness and becoming a better person in response to what you’ve endured.
In the end, Drea and Eleanor each make up with their love interests (Russ for Drea, Gabbi for Eleanor) and drive out of town together, skipping graduation and leaving their Rosehill troubles behind.
