Cyberpunk: Edgerunners spoilers: Do David and Lucy end up together?

At the heart of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a love story that excites the spirit and soothes the soul.

David and his lover, Lucy, didn’t get off to the best start at first. Lucy saw David as nothing more than a boy she could swindle, while David saw Lucy as a woman way out of his league. Despite all their differences, they still discovered the many things they had in common—specifically, their love for the Moon.

For this couple, the Moon represented their hope to find a place where they feel like they can escape and be free to dream. And while a trip to the Moon is only a one-way ticket, they both agreed that they would eventually see a day when they both venture to the stars and gaze at the pearl-white celestial body.

But did that day ever arrive? Or were these dreamers far too optimistic?

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners: Do David and Lucy have a happy ending?

At every step of the way since their first union, David and Lucy were joined at the hip. David didn’t want to do anything without Lucy’s words of affirmation, and Lucy didn’t dare to step into a dangerous situation without knowing that David was safe and accounted for. However, despite their undying loyalty to one another, they became like ships passing at night somewhere along the way.

After Maine and Dorio’s death, Lucy was very shaken up, as was David. But the two dealt with the tragedies in completely different ways. Lucy became reclusive, while David buried himself in dangerous missions that pushed his body to the limit. Their opposite responses caused them never to process what happened, and so, they drifted further apart until they became unrecognizable to one another.

As David entered a deep cyber psychosis, Lucy fought hard to figure out a way to maintain David’s body to prevent him from burning out. In the same breath, she also did everything she could to hack into the network of the people who turned David into a monster so that he could be freed from his chains. Still, all this was too much for her to deal with, leaving her with no choice but to cut her losses and bid her lover a final farewell.

Sometime after David’s death, Lucy finally took a trip to the Moon. There, she remembered her first date with David and could hear his hearty laugh ring loud and true. At that moment, she realized she was as lonely as she was before she met the love of her life.

Hopefully, in another life, David and Lucy can receive their happy ending, but for now, we hope Lucy finds a way to keep his memory alive.
