365 Days and 12 steamiest Netflix shows and movies
By Mads Lennon
Summer might be winding down but sometimes you still want to watch a scorching movie or television show. Luckily for us, there is no shortage of steamy Netflix content available, from the cheesy 365 Days trilogy to the more sensual Bridgerton, sometimes you just want to watch romance with some spice.
The following list compiles some of the most popular (and a few underrated) steamy Netflix television shows and movies you can watch if you’re in the mood for something intimate. Everything on this list is rated TV-MA or R-rated, so make sure you’re not watching stuff on here with young viewers (or your parents).
Have you seen 365 Days yet? What about the After movies? Are there any other steamy Netflix movies or shows you like?
Steamiest Netflix shows and movies
365 Days trilogy
Based on the trilogy by Blanka Lipińska, the 365 Days trilogy is kind of like the Polish answer to Fifty Shades of Grey, albeit more intense and definitely more controversial. If you thought the contracts and stalking in Fifty Shades was bad, 365 Days starts with a kidnapping. But the sex scenes are definitely steamier and more intense if that’s what you’re after.
All three films are basically soft porn music videos with a near-constant stream of music from EMO playing in the background to maintain the sensual mood throughout. If you just want something silly and sexy to watch then these films are a great option. Leads Michele Morrone and Anna-Maria Sieklucka certainly make for beautiful eye candy, at least!
Sex/Life
Sarah Shahi stars as bored housewife Billie Connelly in this Netflix series inspired by the novel 44 Chapters About 4 Men by BB Easton. Billie has grown bored in her marriage and starts letting her mind wander back to her sexy ex-boyfriend Brad (Adam Demos).
While Billie’s husband Cooper (Mike Vogel) is certainly no slouch, she doesn’t feel the same sexual chemistry with him as she did with her ex and her fantasies run wild when Brad re-enters her life. Soon Billie must choose between her stable home life and a reckless, toxic affair with Brad. And yes, this is the Netflix show with the infamous naked shower scene in the third episode. Sex/Life season 2 is in the works.
Bridgerton
The spice level of the Netflix series Bridgerton, based on the book series by Julia Quinn, isn’t as explicit as the previous entries on this list, but in some ways, it’s much hotter than either 365 Days or Sex/Life. Season 2, in particular, has an insane amount of sexual tension and chemistry between leads Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey as Kate Sharma and Anthony Bridgerton.
I don’t know about you, but often for me, the build-up and unresolved tension are sexier than the actual sex scenes and Bridgerton has that in spades. There are steamy sex scenes too, more so in season 1, but somehow the sophomore season is even hotter, even with more clothes involved.
Bonding
Bonding is perhaps one of the kinkiest shows on Netflix as you might have guessed from the above photo and the show’s title. The series follows a grad student/domme and her gay best friend who doubles as her assistant.
We see all sorts of wild situations on the show, including rope play, characters roleplaying as Flintstones, humiliation, and, of course, BDSM. The series is a mostly lighthearted comedy and surprisingly hilarious and heartfelt at times, it’s not just sexy but Bonding is a fun and entertaining show to watch.
Duck Butter
Duck Butter is an intimate hidden gem currently available on the streaming service produced by Netflix and Duplass Brothers Production. Several shows and films featured on this list feature LGBTQ+ characters and couples, but Duck Butter is entirely focused on a lesbian couple and stars Alia Shawkat and Laia Costa in the leading roles.
Duck Butter is genuinely a moving film with an interesting premise and a female-driven perspective. The story, which Shawkat co-wrote with director Miguel Arteta, revolves around two women fed up with the dating scene that decide to spend 24 hours together in the hopes of finding new forms of intimacy.
High Heat
From Who Killed Sara? creator José Ignacio Valenzuela, High Heat is a raunchy, kinky Mexican telenovela that might even give 365 Days a run for its money. The 39-episode first season alone features lots of naked firefighters, threesomes, and even couples fooling around in a fire station.
It’s like the R-rated version of Chicago Fire, complete with firefighters stripping their shirts off (one of the main characters is a former erotic dancer who goes undercover as a firefighter to try and solve his brother’s murder).
Gypsy
Naomi Watts stars in this sizzling psychological thriller series as therapist Jean Holloway, a woman with a dangerous habit of becoming way too close to her patients.
Even though Gypsy didn’t get tons of attention when it first premiered, it slowly built a loyal fanbase, primarily from gay fans who appreciated the erotic coupling between Watts’ character and Sophie Cookson’s character Sydney. Even though Netflix canceled the show after just one season, a lot of fans would love to see it return.
Sense8
Yes, we had to include the show with the giant orgy. Created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski, Sense8 is a sci-fi drama series about eight different people from around the world who discover they are “sensates,” meaning they are emotionally and physically linked to strangers across the globe.
The series delved deep into important themes of sexuality, gender, identity, and more. It is beloved by fans and has garnered a significant cult following and loyal fanbase. A lot of people were disappointed when Netflix canceled the show after two seasons, enough that Netflix did order a two-and-a-half-hour series finale to wrap up to the storylines.
Outlander
If Bridgerton is your style then I highly suggest checking out Outlander on Netflix. It’s not a Netflix Original but Netflix streams several seasons of the Starz drama based on the bestselling book series by Diana Gabaldon should appeal to anyone who likes sexy historical dramas.
Sam Heughan plays the hot, roguish 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and when Claire Randall meets him after time-traveling it’s not long before the two fall madly in love and passionately into bed. There are many sex scenes in Outlander, usually between the show’s two leads whose chemistry never ceases to sizzle. From their unforgettable wedding night in season 1 to sex on a boat, Outlander has no shortage of steam.
Sexify
Polish sex comedy Sexify has become an international success for Netflix. The hilarious series follows university students Natalia, Paulina, and Monika as they try to create an app that will help users discover the world of sexuality and the female orgasm.
In some ways, the show sounds like a modern, comedic version of the Showtime series Masters of Sex. If you enjoyed that series then I’m sure Sexify will appeal to you, too!
After movies
Tessa and Hardin’s sexual chemistry is on another level. There’s a reason there are like five of these movies, people can’t get enough of them. Let’s be honest, people aren’t watching After for the writing or plot, they’re watching for the hookup scenes (remember that ice cube apology scene?) between the two main characters.
The 2019 film kicked off what has transformed into a surprisingly popular franchise, all starting with Anna Todd’s 2014 novel of the same name, which itself took inspiration from One Direction/Harry Styles fanfiction. The fourth film, After Ever Happy, was just released in theaters and is expected to come to Netflix in January 2023. A fifth and final movie is in the works and you can currently stream the first three on Netflix.
Dark Desire
Dark Desire might be one of those shows you overlooked and if so, you might want to backtrack now if you’re looking for something steamy to watch.
The sexy Mexican thriller series follows a married law school professor who spends a weekend away and learns that her husband has been keeping a lot of secrets from her that lead her to question everything she has come to know about her life and those closest to her. The sex scenes on this show are pure fire and are sure to make you sweat.
