Devil in Ohio episode 6 recap: “My Love and I”

Fortunately, Dani is in stable condition in the hospital and Suzanne expresses concern as to why she was alone and didn’t call her. They can’t find Jules or Mae, but Helen thinks they must’ve just stayed late at the bonfire.

Peter finally arrives, and Mae is right after him, but Jules is nowhere to be found. Peter explains that there was a fire at his house, saying it was probably a Halloween prank by some kids.

We then cut to Jules in the car with the mystery man, who tells her he doesn’t want to bring her home because he wants to spend some time with her. Jules is definitely not as alarmed as she should be, instead opening up about her drama with Mae and Sebastian. The driver says he’ll go with Jules to the dance, which she seems happy about, but she’s frightened when he stops the car short and demands her to “get out.”

But it seems Jules isn’t in any immediate danger, as after they get out of the car, the mystery guy urges her to look up at the stars. He calls her beautiful, which charms her, and he tells her to meet him tomorrow night to look at some more stars together. He then starts drawing something on her arm, telling her it’s “something to remember [him] by.” We don’t get to see it just yet, but we can take some guesses what it could be.

Over at the station, Detective Lopez analyzes what he just saw in Amontown with Brooks, and he finally discovers a potential lead.

Jules still hasn’t come home, and Suzanne and Peter start arguing over it. It’s obvious that Suzanne’s obsession with Mae has caused a lot of problems with the family, but Suzanne defends her decisions still. Jules finally arrives and assures her parents she’s okay.

Suzanne then thinks back to a memory when she was a teenager coming home after curfew, having to deal with her abusive stepfather. As she runs up to her room, she blasts music in her headphones in attempts to drown out the noise of her mom and stepfather fighting downstairs. Suzanne recalls this in therapy, something she’s required to go to after she was caught trying to steal a patient’s file at the hospital.

She remembers other traumatic moments with her stepfather, explaining that finally one night, she waited for him to pass out and made her runaway.

Jules has been on cloud nine ever since she scored a date with the mystery guy, but when Mae sees what he drew on her arm, she’s alarmed. And for good reason. It’s one of the symbols the people of Amontown use. Mae demands to know the guy’s name that Jules is seeing, and Jules says that it’s Noah.

As you probably guessed, Mae knows this Noah. They’re actually siblings. Mae urges Jules not to hang out with him, but doesn’t explain why.

A detective comes to speak with Peter about the burned down house, telling him that they need to investigate what actually happened and confirm whether or not it was arson. Peter is nervous that whatever they find might effect his insurance claim, and it becomes evident the detective suspects he might’ve started the fire himself in order to get money.

Alex pays a priest a visit, questioning him on a fire connected to members of Amontown. The priest claims to not have known anything about how it started, nor having seen anything Satanic going on. He says he was a drug addict and denies knowing anything.

Jules and Isaac are on good terms again, and Jules is excited for her date with Noah. But once she gets to the park to meet him, Mae shows up and finally explains. She reveals that Noah is her older brother, and the symbol he wrote on Jules’ arm is a “warning.” Noah soon shows up but the girls are already gone.

Suzanne and Peter make up and Peter explains that a fraud investigator is looking into the house. He says that he thinks Mae had something to do with the fire, and he wants her to leave. Suzanne agrees and assures Peter that she’ll find someplace else for Mae to go.

The episode ends with Suzanne struggling with her decision, thinking back to the trauma and abuse she faced as a teen.
